It was without doubt the performance of the day and had the whole of the Winton track talking.
After being checked and breaking at the 1700 metres, Axel Rose’s (En Solitaire) trainer driver Matty Williamson got him going again and tacked onto the back of the main body of the field before taking him on a searching run to take the lead.
“I knew he had a motor, but once he had a gallop I said to him not to gallop for too long mate. All of his runs have been great, but at his last start he really impressed me with how strong he was after the line and it made me think I should have launched him a bit earlier. I didn’t wait that long this time.”
Today the horse had the talent to come away in the straight and win by six and a half lengths with Williamson not activating the removeable deafeners.
AXEL ROSE REPLAY
“He feels like a good horse. He feels really strong and gets into a rhythm and holds his speed. He’s got a very good motor so it’s just about him developing and working on his manners. I thinks he’s going to be an exciting horse for us.”

Owned by Tony Gow, Graeme Anderson, Steve Pulley, Ray Chalkin and Peter Soper, the three year old is out of Pegarose which won two races for Matty’s brother Nathan.
Williamson confirmed that Axel Rose will now head to the paddock.
“He’s quite a big horse so he’ll strengthen up a lot. He’s come a long way in a short time so I think if we continue to be patient we’ll have something.”
