Back-to-back wins for talented trotter

Majestic Man (Majestic Son) has well and truly broken his winning drought, scoring his second consecutive harness racing victory at Addington Raceway on Friday night (Aug. 12) in convincing fashion.

The multiple Group One winner found himself parked early on in the Avon City Ford Free-For-All (1609m), but driver Brad Williamson elected to press forward for the lead at the bell.

The Phil Williamson-trained trotter was forced to work for the lead by pacemaker Clyde but eventually wrestled the lead off his foe heading into the back straight.

He showed his class when opening up several margins on his opposition with 450m to go, maintaining that advantage and eventually running away to a four-length victory over Phoebe Onyx, with a further 1-1/4 lengths back to Clyde in third.

MAJESTIC MAN REPLAY

Driver Brad Williamson was pleased to extend his winning streak to two after being winless behind the gelding in his homeland for more than 18 months.

“He is relishing not having to race the great trotters that we have in the country at the moment,” Brad Williamson said.

“Some might have thought he was over the hill over the last 12 months. Although he been running some great races, he hadn’t been winning, so it was great to get a couple of wins to his name again.”

Williamson is looking forward to the spring with the seven-year-old and he is hoping they can reclaim their crown in the Gr.3 Ashburton Trotters Flying Mile (1609m).

“He has been a good horse to me for a long time and he has always been racing at the top level and he been very competitive for a long time now, he has been a marvellous horse to drive,” Williamson said.

“His big target is probably to have another go at that Ashburton Mile that he won two years ago.

“That will probably be his best chance of getting a Group race when these nice horses come back.”

Earlier on the card, Williamson was saluting the judge once more, but this time in his own silks after piloting Mixed Faith (Father Patrick) to victory in the Nevele R Stud Trot (2600m).

“She is a nice little filly that keeps getting better. She has surprised me with how she has grown and matured, she is going to make a handy little racehorse,” Williamson said.

The filly won three starts back before her training was impacted by severe weather.

“I lined her up a couple of times at Addington where she was just a little bit on the short side with work because we had some flooding at home,” Williamson said.

“She came up here and had a bit of experience and a couple of race starts but she probably wasn’t quite at her peak.

“In the last couple of weeks we haven’t been interfered with weather at home. Things have dried up and she has raced a lot better tonight and raced as good as she can go.

“Hopefully she keeps on improving the way she has.”
