Southland trainer Clark Barron scored a grass track double at the Wyndham Harness Racing Clubs meeting at Cromwell today.
Miki’s Beauty (Always B Miki) got the double underway when she cleared maiden ranks at start thirty one.
“She raced against the two year old fillies and Southern Oaks fillies (in the last two seasons). This year she’s dropped down into the lower grade were she’s very competitive. Last year she was second on both days so obviously she likes it up here,” Barron said.
In today’s race, driver Blair Orange sped the four year old out of the gate and trailed the leader Top Pocket Chance. When La Bamba took over, Miki’s Beauty was left three back on the inside. Turning in, Orange moved her off the inside running line and despite running around in the home straight she won by four lengths from Cruising Fontana.
MIKI’S BEAUTY REPLAY
“He said she won easily.”
Miki’s Beauty was bred and is raced by Russell and Marilyn Baird.
“They’re retired dairy farmers from Dacre. Dancing Dixie was the first one I had for them. She won a couple, and they’ve bred three or four out of the mare and this is her first winner in New Zealand. They were very excited.”
The win was well deserved as Miki’s Beauty has recorded five seconds and three thirds prior to today’s win.

Barron’s second win was an all family affair when the talented Always On Sale, also by Always B Miki, took out the Santana Minerals Ltd Mobile Pace.
Bred and owned by Jackie Barron, trained by Clark and driven by their daughter Ellie the five year old had to overcome starting from the unruly.
After he navigated the start Ellie was able to slot him into the one one and he powered home to beat Two Ticks by three quarters of a length.
ALWAYS ON SALE REPLAY
“He’s been racing super in his last two or three starts. It was probably an easy run for him today compared to his runs at Gore and Winton.”
Today was the five year old’s third win in sixteen starts.
“He’s always had a lot of bottom to him but he’s had a lot of problems, too many to mention. He’s had one issue after another but he’s just a big overgrown horse which is his main problem.”
