Beaudiene Breeding, a name synonymous with harness racing excellence in Australasia will have a select number of colts on offer at the NZB Standardbred Sales to be held in Christchurch next month.
The brand is owned by Dave and Dawn Kennedy from Bayswater in Southland and they’ve had a lifetime involvement in breeding and racing standardbreds.
The Kennedy’s list of standardbred winners is extensive.and Themightyquinn, winner of 58 races and $5,520,055, tops the impressive list.
The Kennedy farm near Otautau consists of 198 hectares used for dairying, plus a recently purchased block of 70 hectares next door which provides dairy support and supports beef cattle and their horses.
This year’s Kennedy draft includes:
Lot 157: Better’s Delight – Galleons Cheer (Albert Albert) Black colt
Out of five win mare Galleons Cheer, this colt’s pedigree is stacked with black print. The mare is represented by nine foals of racing age and has produced six winners including New Zealand Oaks winner Cheer The Lady and seven race winner Cheer The Major. Deeper into her pedigree page are the quality race horses Duke Of Cornwall, Duke Of Wellington and Spanish Armada.
“He’s got a beautiful nature, athletic and very correct. A very striking individual who’s clever, easy to work with and willing. He’s well grown for his size, strong and without a doubt a two year old type,” Dave said.
Lot 172: Downbytheseaside – Galleons Pleasure (Bettor’s Delight) Bay colt
This colt is a half-brother to Treacherous Gall, one of the top three year old pacing fillies of last season. At season’s end she’d won five races from eleven starts including the G2 Southern Oaks. Treacherous Gall is nominated for the Three Year Old Pacing Filly of the Year in a strong crop that includes Millwood Nike, Mantra Blue, and Aardiebytheseaside.
“He’s a good size, strong, has got a mind of his own and has a bit of toughness about him but he’s not dirty. He’s definitely a two year old type and one of the picks of the draft. I’ve put his mother back to Downbytheseaside because this horse is such a nice colt.”
Lot 261: Propulsion – Rae Galleon (Sundon) Bay colt
This trotting colt is the first yearling to be auctioned on the second day of the sale. He’s one of two colts by the Muscle Hill stallion Propulsion being offered at Christchurch. Propulsion won eleven races in the USA and Europe. His oldest progeny in America are two year olds while in Sweden he’s already the sire of forty seven winners. Rae Galleon won four races and all four of her foals that have raced have won. This is the family of Rowe Cup winner Stent.
“He’s a super natured horse, correct and strong. If his nature is typical of the Propulsions, they’ll do a great job. He’s super chilled.”
Lot 355: Downbytheseaside – Beaudiene Blinkz (Badlands Hanover) Bay colt
This colt is out of a full sister to multiple group winning mare Beaudiene Bad Babe and millionaire pacer Beaudiene Boaz. Beaudiene Blinkz’s only foal to race. Jilliby Illuminate, (Sweet Lou) has won both her starts in Australia.
“A definite two year old type. I’ve put Beaudiene Blinkz back to Downbytheseaside because it looks as though she’s clicked very well with him. He’s a nice size, powerful, correct, a beautiful mover and I really like him. Ray Green bought Jilliby Illuminate for the Lees in Australia. Ray said she’s a magical pacer and it looks like she’ll do a good job. She’s got speed and she’s tough.”
Lot 363: Bettor’s Delight – Beaudiene Maja Babe (Art Major) Bay colt
Beaudiene Maja Babe’s second dam is Beaudiene Babe who is the dam of Group One winning mare Beaudiene Bad Babe ($404,898) and millionaire pacer Beaudiene Boaz (3 NZ wins and 22 WA wins and $1,155,839).
“He’s different to all the other Bettor’s Delights I’ve had. He’s probably thrown more to Art Major. He’s very aristocratic and a real smart looking bugger. He’s got a bit of scope with him. A nice looking individual.”
The Beaudiene Bloodstock yearling photos and videos can be viewed on the NZB Standardbred website by clicking here or viewed in the flesh on the SBSR tour on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th February.
