The Regan Todd trained Betterthancash (Art Major) is proving to be a great harness money maker for his connections.
His win in the $25,000 Hunter Family Handicap at Wyndham yesterday was his fifth in just nineteen starts and took his earnings to close to $70,000.
Driver Robbie Close got the four year old away well from the stand and took him to the top before handing up to American Me.
“He got the perfect trip behind what I thought was the right one to follow,” Close said.
American Me got Betterthancash to the passing lane and as the field fanned out across the track, Close got his run up the inside.
“I thought the leader just stopped on me enough. I’m lucky he’s quite fast and he got there in the end.”
BETTERTHANCASH REPLAY
The winning margin was one and a quarter lengths with Double Jeopardy charging home for second with Macandrew Aviator a neck away in third. Two lengths covered the next three runners in what was a great finish.

The win capped off a great weekend for Glenys and Phil Kennard, part owners of Betterthancash.

Five Crowns won a heat of the Supremacy at Wyndham. Mediator won for the couple at Cambridge on Friday night and Renegade notched up his sixth win at Addington.
The Wyndham meeting was also a good one for Close. He reined an earlier winner when Andy Hall (Andover Hall) trained by Lyndon Bond won his first race in almost a year.
ANDY HALL REPLAY

It was the nine year old squaregaiter’s eleventh win and his first for Bond. The horse’s other wins have been with Nathan Williamson (8) and Robert and Jenna Dunn (2).
