Champion harness racing trainer/driver Tony Herlihy had a big night at Alexandra Park last night training two winners and driving Simply Sam (American Ideal) to an impressive win in the feature pace, the Prudentia Law 2022 Winter Cup.
Herlihy started his winning night off in style getting Dina Mo (American Ideal) home to upset the favourite Courage Of Montana in the second race of the night.
“He is a bit stronger this time in,” Herihy said after the race.
“The owners were good enough to give him a break and the breed has always gotten stronger with time and this one has,” he said.

A race later and the two-year-oldĀ trotting gelding Ordained (Father Patrick – Margaritaville) won nicely on debut with Herlihy nabbing a training trifecta in the race, after Luby Lil ran second with Brent Mangos doing the steering and Sister Johnson (Tony Herlihy) running third.
“He has kept improving with a few trials runs under his belt and he has always been nice enough,” Herlihy said.
“It was a good effort to get up because the other filly (Luby Lil) is quite nice,” he said.
ORDAINED REPLAY
Simply Sam was too good later in the night in the Prudentia Law 2022 Winter Cup with Herlihy in the sulky for trainer Ray Green.
“It was a good effort he is a lovely type of horse,” Herlihy said.
“He was just jogging along at the back of the fieldĀ and when I pulled him out at the top of the straight he really showed some acceleration,” he said.
