Trotting champion Sundees Son (Majestic Son) has been sensationally beaten by arch harness racing rival Bolt For Brilliance (Muscle Hill) in tonight’s $250,000 (Gr1) Reharvest Rowe Cup at Alexandra Park.
Having run several seconds to Sundees Son in previous races, driver Tony Herlihy was determined to stay in front tonight with Bolt For Brilliance and he did so, keeping the favourite Sundees Son parked during the run.
Turning for home it was clear Sundees Son had nothing left in the tank and Bolt For Brilliance came clear to get a deserved win in the 3200m feature.
Temporale ran home well for second and Sundees Son stuck on for third.
“We were travelling good across the top and when I gave him his head he put a couple of lengths on them,” driver Tony Herlihy said after the race.
“He was getting a bit tired in the run home but he does knock off a bit too when he is out on his own so he has gone terrific,” he said.
Bolt For Brilliance has now won 18 races from 40 starts and has career earnings of more than $665,000
