Quality owned Southland mare Braeview Kelly (Bettor’s Delight) has produced her first foal, a colt by Captaintreacherous.

Raced by Paul and Mandy Pierce, Braeview Kelly won eighteen races, was second thirteen times and ran third seven times, banking $459,030.

For most of her career she was trained in Australia by Jack Trainor where she won the G3 Norms Daughter Ladyship Stakes, G3 Frith Stakes (twice), G3 Sibelia Stakes and G1 Queen Elizabeth II Mile in 1-49.5 which stands as her best mile mark. She also finished third in the G1 Queen Of The Pacific.

The colt will be prepped for the 2026 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales.

The most successful trainers this year at Cup Day at Addington were Robert and Jenna Dunn. The Woodend Beach partnership produced three winners – Bounce N Beyond (Majestic Son), Celestial Sea (Always B Miki) and It’s Tough (Bettor’s Delight).

A full sister to Leap To Fame is going through her first preparation with Winton trainer Chelsea Faithful.

Claim To Fame recently bought by New Zealand owner Jim Haines, was sent south by Burnham trainer Mark Jones.

It’s expected the filly will race, before embarking on a breeding career.

Faithful is also preparing two rising yearlings for clients for the February Sales.

Rock N Miki is a colt by Always B Miki out of six win Rock N Roll Heaven mare Rock N Joy, while Plutonium Gal is a Captaintreacherous filly out of eleven wins Bettor’s Delight mare Plutonium Lady.

Harnesslink’s former owner John Curtin and the website’s new owner Mick Harvey, each  had winners on Cup Day.

Curtin owns Taketheplunge (Captaintreacherous) which won the Alsco Uniforms Mobile Pace for trainer Steven Reid, while Kingman (Always B Miki) bred and owned by Harvey and trained by Luke McCarthy won the IRT New Zealand Cup.

A big congratulation to the Winton Harness Racing Club for running a hugely successful World Drivers Championship day last Sunday.

Well done to all the volunteers organised by Diane Dynes who spent hours painting and renovating. This will future proof the facility. Special mention to the main man on the brush, Trevor Proctor. Good job Trev.

The racing surface and surrounding grounds were well prepared by caretaker Ian Jamieson and his band of helpers and Sunday’s racing surface was perfect for fast competitive racing.

Well known Southland owner Jim Veint passed away recently.

Veint raced numerous horses including Cedar Fella.

The giant trotter from a 54 start career interrupted by injury, won 18 races including the 1998 Dominion Handicap.

He also won the Ordeal Cup, New Zealand Trotting Free For All, New Zealand Championship and the Canterbury Park Trotting Cup.

He was developed and won his first seven races for Bryce Buchanan. The balance of his wins were for Warren Stapleton.

Veint also raced pacer Steiger (Bettor’s Delight) which he bred with his brother Alistair and Warren Tuckey. He was trained by Lindsay and won four races. He still holds a Wyndham track record of 2-57.2 for the 2400 metre stand.
