Blue September total keeps on climbing

Harness Racing New Zealand’s Blue September campaign is aiming to top $20,000.

So far $15,550 has been raised by the ten drivers involved in the Prostate Cancer Foundation initiative, with contributions from HRNZ, clubs and other individual sponsors

Blair Orange has won the most races (13) with Robbie Close the highest money earner ($3200) thanks to his individual sponsors.

There are just two meetings to go, with Gore and Cambridge on Thursday, though Zachary Butcher and Zev Meredith will drive at three more meetings in Auckland in October as they missed so much of the month in the north because of Covid restrictions.

Butcher had his first Blue September drives on Friday night, winning twice with Miss Montana and Be My Rose.

At Motukarara yesterday Mark Hurrell won the HRNZ Blue September Invited Drivers Challenge pace with the Bob Butt-trained Kiwi X Factor.

Third in that race was Takemybreathaway, with trainer Fred Scott donating half of his stakes ($855) to the cause. He issued a challenge for others to follow suit and among those who donated their driving fees on the day were Carter Dalgety and Tom Bamford.
