Southland owned harness racing mare Braeview Kelly (Bettor’s Delight) has been retired after running sixth in the $200,000 Queen Elizabeth II Mile at Menangle last night.
Bred by Katie Carville and owned by Southlanders Paul and Mandy Pierce, Braeview Kelly qualified for Gore trainer Tony Stratford and won on debut at Invercargill in June 2020 as a two year old. She won two races for Stratford and after finishing fourth in the NZB Standardbred Harness Million 1 Fillies Final was transferred to Mark Jones’ Burnham stable. She won a further five races for Jones before heading across the Tasman in July 2022 to be trained by Jack Trainor.
“She’s done us proud,” Paul said in a short text confirming her retirement.
For Trainor she won the G3 Norm’s Daughter Ladyship Stakes, the G3 Frith Stakes, the G3 Sibelia Stakes and G1 Queen Elizabeth II Mile – in 1-49.5 which stands as her best mile mark. She also finished third in the G1 Queen Of The Pacific.
In total from sixty five starts Braeview Kelly won eighteen races, was second thirteen times and ran third seven times. She banked $459,030.
