Trainers Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan have maintained there’s not a lot between their two three year old trotters Meant To Be (Father Patrick) and Higher Power (Father Patrick) and the winning margin of a nose in tonight’s $100,000 Group One Breckon Farms Northern Trotting Derby confirmed their opinion.
It was Meant To Be in the hands of Zachary Butcher that got the call, just.
MEANT TO BE REPLAY
“The 2700 took it out of him a bit. Scotty (Phelan driving Higher Power) came late and I thought he was going to get me. At the top of the bend I gave him a wee flick and he didn’t kick on. I said come on big fella. When they got to him he put that head down and fought,” Butcher said.

It was the perfect result for race night sponsors Ken and Karen Breckon (who bred both horses) and their syndicate. Their farm manager Nigel Fahy also has shares in Higher Power.
“He’s (Meant to Be) had to work hard from the second line. They’ve come round and had a look at him. He was brave in the end.”
