Built For Glory (Bettor’s Delight) went head to head with Miraculous, but proved too good in today’s three year old harness racing feature, the Cardrona Distillery Stakes at Gore today.
Nathan Williamson made the first move taking Miraculous to the front halfway through the 2200 metre feature while Tim Williams settled Built For Glory three back on the outside.
With just over a lap to run Williams made his move, and got up to sit parked.
“He felt pretty good really and after staying out of the early burn, he got a nice trip. When Nathan got in front with his horse we couldn’t let him get too far in front of us,” Williams said.
As Miraculous and Built For Glory hit the 400 the pair went to war, breaking away by five lengths from the chasing bunch.
“With the tight turning tracks he’s been a funny steering horse. I gave a flick on the bum halfway down the back straight just to make sure he was on the bit so he could get round that last bend. Once he got round there were no problems at all.”
In the end Built For Glory trained by Steve and Amanda Telfer proved too good, winning by a length and a half from Miraculous with Remission five and a half lengths back in third.
BUILT FOR GLORY REPLAY
“He was getting a bit tired going that sort of speed but he still had his earplugs tucked in. All credit to Nat’s horse who fought all the way up the home straight. It took a bit to get past him.”
The winning time of 2-40.2 was just outside Global Domination’s race and track record of 2-39.8.
“He’s starting to furnish into a racehorse now. His race at Methven was beyond expectations and the amount of ground he took off some pretty serious racehorses persuaded us to have a go at the Derby. It was a bit of a throw at the stumps but it was the last Group One for the three year olds. Today’s race was the next logical step for him to return to form.”
