Woodend Beach harness racing trainer Bob Butt wasn’t too disappointed with The Lazarus Effect (Lazarus) after he finished third at Addington last Friday.
The previously unbeaten four year old led for most of the 1980 metre trip and was run down late by Slots who came from the one one and Spirit Of Anarchy finishing along the inside. A length separated the trio.
“I was still quite happy with his run. He’s still a bit green and was beaten by two better ones on the night. It was a windy night and he did the work in front. He just needs to get a bit of racing under his belt. He’s had all these issues and has been wrapped in cotton wool. He’s now nice and sound so it’s time to get some racing into him and see what he can do,” Butt said.

The Lazarus Effect lines up again on Friday at Addington where he faces a slightly stronger field that includes Betterthancash and Da Vinci both of whom will start off the 25 metre mark in a 2600 metre stand.
Meanwhile Waiuku trotter Mazeppa (Love You) has been sold and will do his future racing in America.
Since joining Michelle Wallis and Bernie Hackett’s barn in March the seven year old has won six of his eight starts.
Over three seasons of racing the gelding has won thirteen races and $112,955. His other seven wins were for his breeder Luk Chin.
