It took a bit of a strategy to get Caldwell (Sportswriter) to the races. She has a few tricks and can get nervous, but harness racing trainer Kirstin Green had a plan and it worked a treat today (Sep. 2) at Invercargill.
āShe just gets a bit wound up. She wasnāt too bad today. We worked her at Ascot Park on Wednesday and left her here with Jeremy Douglas, so she was close to the track, and it worked out really well,ā Green said.
Green took Caldwell out onto the track late and only did one warm up lap which helped her to remain settled prior to the start.
It was a tough race today. She sat parked for most of the trip, but she hung on to beat a fast finishing The Dark Knight by a head.
She paid $13.40 to win and $3.70 for a place.
CALDWELL REPLAY
Caldwell is out of the McArdle mare Ask McArdle which won a total of five races here and in Australia.
A half brother to Caldwell, Bobbies Rock ran second on debut at Winton last week to the talented Raupunga Lad.
āHeās more sensible, while she has more speed,ā Green said when comparing the two.
Southern Harness Chairman Tom Kilkelly bred both horses and his car business Regent Car Court sponsored todayās race.
