Cameron goes three from three this weekend

Tony Cameron scored a winning harness racing double at Cambridge Raceway yesterday, rounding out a good weekend for the Auckland reinsman.

From Friday through Sunday, the Auckland reinsman had three drives with every one of them a winner.

“It all worked out well today and was nice to get a double,” says Cameron.

Cameron’s first winner was Pandora (Downbytheseaside) in Race three, The Hidden Lake Hotel and Apartments Mobile Pace. The three-year-old filly, trained by Tony Herlihy, was sent forward early from her starting position of eleven and was briefly three wide as Cameron rounded the field to take the lead. The filly led for the remainder of the race, accelerating when asked at the 400 metre mark, and fought on well to beat Dom Toretto by a head who was closing in late.

“She’s been racing well and had a bit of bad luck at her last start when she had a couple of runners stop in front her,” says Cameron.

“She ran to the line well today to get her win.”

The Downbytheseaside filly has had five starts for one win and three placings.

PANDORA REPLAY

Two Eye See (Art Major) was Cameron’s second victory of the day for Pukekohe trainers Logan Hollis and Shane Robertson in race six, the Woodlands Stud Thanks Buyers Mobile Pace. Hollis and Robertson also trained the second placed Bet West giving the trainers a race quinella.

“Two Eye See is a professional wee race horse,” says Cameron, “he ended up getting a good trip and felt like he was always going to be a threat in the finish.”

Cameron sent Two Eye See forward early and eventually settled into running in the one off three back position. With the pace on, Cameron was content to let the gelding enjoy the trip with cover before setting off with just over 300 metres left to travel. Stablemate Bet West forced the gelding wider on the home bend and the pair then battled it out in the straight with Two Eye See scoring the win by three quarters of a length over Bet West.

It was the four-year-old Art Major gelding’s fifth win, bringing his lifetime earnings to just over $74,000.

Cameron’s winning drive at Friday’s meeting was on the Tony Herlihy-trained Great White who took out the first North Island two-year-old race of the season.

“He’s a good looking, strong horse and it seems like he could have a bit of bottom to him,” says Cameron, “he’s definitely one I’m looking forward to driving again.”
