The books are filling fast for new stallion Capt Midnight who has just touched down in the Southern Hemisphere.

Standing his first season Down Under at Cobbitty Equine Farm, Capt Midnight is in quarantine and has already been popular according to the operation’s director Belinda McCarthy.

He is the first son of former champion pacer, and now leading sire, Captaintreacherous to be imported to New South Wales.

“Capt Midnight should be fully booked in Australia in two weeks’ time,” said McCarthy.

“All of our stallions have received great support so far and it’s great to have a new stallion be popular so early on.

“Capt Midnight arrived in quarantine last week and looked unreal on arrival.”

McCarthy revealed Cobbitty Equine Farm is venturing into new territory and not only exporting semen to New Zealand for the first time with Capt Midnight, and also their other stallion McWicked, but also offering frozen semen for the first time.

“Due to the Sydney lockdown there is just no certainty with anything at the moment so we want to make sure breeders in New Zealand get their chance to put their mares in foal to Capt Midnight and McWicked so we are offering frozen semen for the first time,” said McCarthy.

“With the COVID situation we want to make sure we can supply NZ breeders with semen and at least this way, the semen will be ready when the respective mares are ready.

“We have never done this before but we want to guarantee breeders in these uncertain times.”

Adding to this, Cobbitty Equine Farm has also announced a special offer with Rangiora Equine Services in New Zealand for breeders that take their mares to Capt Midnight or McWicked.

“Cobbitty Equine Farm and Rangiora Equine Services are offering a one-off deal for New Zealand breeders that take their mare to Rangiora Equine and book into Capt Midnight and/or McWicked for frozen semen,” said McCarthy.

“If the mare does not go in foal on her first cycle, we will pay the account with Rangiora Equine.

“Last year Rangiora Equine Services boasted a 85 per cent success rate with frozen semen.”

Both Sires are $5000 plus GST – multiple mare discounts apply.
