Capt Midnight, the former juvenile star of Tony Alagna’s, kicked off his stallion career on a solid note with the son of Captaintreacherous posting his first two winners at the Converse Fairgrounds in Indiana on Wednesday.
The first-season sire who stands in the Hoosier State at Premier Acres has a debut crop of 87 two-year-olds that are beginning to emerge locally and on a cold and wet Wednesday afternoon at Converse, two of his daughters saluted in style.
First it was the Justin White trained Premier Mayflower wiring the field in 2:04 for the mile with Jared Seekman in the bike.
The pair cut out the first half of the mile in 1:04.2 before running them along and cruising home impressively with a 29 last quarter to make her race day debut a winning one with a length to spare at the finish.
Premier Mayflower is the second foal from the lightly tried Dragon Again mare, Bella Girl Hanover who is a half-sister to the 53 race winner, Boca Hanover (The Panderosa).
Capt Midnight’s second winner came less than an hour later when the John Merkel-trained filly Roll On Midnite got over the top of her race rivals late in the piece to win her race day debut.
Driven by Jay Cross, the pair were third entering the stretch before rallying late to win by a half-length in a winning time of 2:05 for the mile.
The daughter of Capt Midnight was a $12,500 purchase at the Northern Indiana Sale in 2022 with the filly being just the second foal out of the 9 win, 1:52.1 performed Rocknroll Fare (Rocknroll Hanover). She in turn is a full sister to Fanticipation a 24-race winner who was third in the 2014 New Jersey Sires Stakes 3YO Fillies final.
At the onset of the baby racing season, Capt Midnight has seen 13 of his first crop in public with two subsequent second-place getters on debut in Vel Mar Captain and Capt Karma.
