The first heat of the Young Guns Series for two-year-old harness racing fillies was served up as a delightful entree on Northern Oaks & Derby night at Alexandra Park this evening with the race trifectad by the stable of Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan.

On the back of an impressive trial in the slush at Alexandra Park last Friday, Youretheonethatiwant (Captaintreacherous) was the one that the punters wanted to be on, and duly rewarded them by showing a clean pair of heels after securing a lovely one-one sit in transit.

The beautifully bred daughter of Captaintreacherous has plenty of pedigree behind her being the first foal out of the unraced Splendid Me (Bettor’s Delight) who is a full sister to multiple Group One winner, Dream About Me and a half to the incomparable Christen Me.

Youretheonethatiwant was bred by Graeme and Katrina Walsh from Westport and is raced by Dean Shannon of Montana Park Ltd.

“I’m very proud of the three of them,” said co-trainer Barry Purdon after the race.

“They went along quite hard so I would say whatever she (winner) did tonight she will improve a lot on. She probably got the best run of the other two in the race, but she has a bit to learn and went good on debut. She has always had a good attitude and wanted to be there, and it’s been pretty straight forward with her and she is a nice filly,” he said.

Making up the trifecta were the debutant stablemates, Won And Only (Captaintreacherous) in the Breckon Farm’s silks and Im Sandra Dee (Always B Miki), who after facing the breeze for the majority of the 1700m affair was gallant in defeat and probably the run of the race.

“Chrystal drove her (Won And Only) to her strengths and it probably suited her rolling along like they did because she is a very good stayer.

“And it was a good effort from Im Sandra Dee to be outside the leader the whole way virtually and she really stuck to her task to her guns well,” he said.

The winning time for the 1700m mobile journey was 2:02.2 with a mile rate of 1:55.5 and closing sectionals of 57.4 and 29.0.
