Up and coming harness racing pacer Anything Goes (American Ideal) wont be seen until later in the year, having had a wind operation a week ago.

“He’s out of action for the next two months. He’ll then come back in, do some light work and then work towards racing in the back half of the year,” co trainer Nathan Purdon said.

Since he was bought out of the Steve Dolan barn the gelding has raced seven times for the Purdon and his father Mark, for two wins and four thirds. And he was touted as a New Zealand Cup contender.

He last raced in the Kaikoura Cup at the end of October, finishing fourth.

“It could be a blessing in disguise. In his last preparation it was the first time he met the real top horses. I think that’ll be the makings of him and the horse you’ll see at the end of the year. Early on he had a couple of issues with his feet with quarter cracks and corns. He’s a pretty smart horse and we haven’t seen the best of him yet.”

Meanwhile the stable has four two year olds targeting feature races in Auckland and in Southland.

Midnight Miki (Always B Miki) a full brother to Kiss, won his trial at Rangiora yesterday beating Party Central (Captaintreacherous) with both running just under the qualifying time. Party Central is out of the seventeen win Bettor’s Delight mare Partyon.

“Those two are probably first in line to tackle the Kindergarten.”

The stable’s other two year old’s at the trials yesterday – Demon Blue (Art Major) and The Con Artist (Vincent) have already qualified.
