Champion trotter Sundees Son has obliterated another New Zealand harness racing record tonight when winning the (Gr1) $100,000 Peter Breckon Memorial Mobile Trot at Alexandra Park in the hands of regular driver John Dunn.
The Robert and Jenna Dunn trained son of Majestic Son led for the last two laps of the race and used his toughness to grind his opposition into the dust, winning in a blistering 1-56.9 mile rate over 2700m.
HisĀ winning time of 3-16.3 seconds beat the old New Zealand record ofĀ 3-19.9 by more than 3.5 seconds.
A jubilant Robert Dunn claimed after the race he could be one of the best ever.
“He trots the bends phenomenal both ways left handed or right handed and it takes energy out of other horses trying to catch him,” Robert Dunn said after the race.
“He could be one of the greatest trotters of all time,” he said.
Sundees Son beat a game Muscle Mountain who ran home well from the back at the 600m and Bolt For Brilliance who battled on well for third after trailing the winner.
