A change in training might work the oracle for handy harness racing pacer Airwaves when he contests the Fear The Dragon Southern Sprint Series over a mile at Young Quinn Raceway on Thursday.
Trainer Craig Laurenson who has two runners engaged in the race, has changed the training on Airwaves in a bid to work out the issues the Panspacificflight gelding has been having in his races.
“Yeh I have changed his training, just trying to work him out totally, because he can run when he is right, so hopefully that has worked for him and we will find out on Thursday,” he told Southern Harness Racing’s Bruce Stewart during the week.
Laurenson also has Sentry (Big Jim) entered in the same race. Sentry has won over the mile (1609m) before in a slick 1:55.5 so the ability is there, but the manners can be a little bit wayward at times, as he proved when going into a break mid-race at the workouts on Saturday and losing his chance.
Sir Brigadoon a Michael House trained in-form runner with top driver Blair Orange driving appears to be the biggest danger to the Laurenson pair along with American Mac who won impressively last start over a similar distance.
Laurenson has a big team of nine runners spread over the nine race cardĀ which starts at 12:13pm on Thursday.
