In our weekly Clearing Maidens article we look through those breaking through for their first victories.
It could be a long-time maiden who has finally mastered race rivals or a progressive star of the track in the future – they all got one thing in common now – theyāre race winners!
Cambridge 5thĀ July
Kings Watch (Heās WatchingĀ – Monaro) Todd Mitchell and Kings Watch got under the guard of punters at Cambridge ,leading the way from the front of affairs to clear out over the final furlong, the son of Heās Watching claiming a victory at big odds in the 2ndĀ of the night on the card. Dam Monaro has been doing an excellent job as a broodmare, her progeny includes the likes of the 7-time winner in Maloo, the impressive Walkinshaw, a winner of some 38 races across the world, and Last Tango In Heaven, a G3 placed son of Rock N Roll Heaven.
Kings Watch slips the field to bring up an impressive miaden victory at Cambridge
Under The Boardwalk (Downbytheseaside – Ranfurly Brogden) The indifferent formline doesnāt mean they canāt win races! Scoreless in the first 5 career starts Under The Boardwalk made ground Ā out wide on the Cambridge track to score in the last of the night. A brace of 4ths at Cambridge in late February and early March suggesting that the ability was there even if the results werenāt showing it. The Chilcott runner is the 2ndĀ winner out of Ranfurly Brogden, the first being the Always B Miki colt in Miki Miksta.
Addington 5thĀ July
Pyramid Rose (Majestic Son – Pyramid Monarch) The M Williamson team continues to find good results when trekking north to Addington. Saluting in the first of the night, Pyramid Rose fought off a late challenge from King Of Diamonds to claim her maiden victory at start #7, the victory coming after a strong 2ndĀ when last produced at Winton on the 29th of June. Ā Dam Pyramid Monarch won 10 herself and left the now 6-time winner Pyramid Mystic as her first foal.
Happy Harper (SportswriterĀ – Happy Heidi) Happy Harper is a happy horse after showing some real guts to master a competitive field in the second of the night at Addington, the win was impressive with B Orange asking the daughter of Sportswriter for an effort from the 600m mark from wider on the track. Happy Harper had previously been an unlucky 3d in behind Watching Brief on the 21stĀ of June.
Happy Harper scores after a late 3 wide bid at Addington.
Aspirational Dream ( Royal AspirationsĀ – Anguish) Royal Aspirations seldom leaves a poor horse and Aspirational Dream looks like one you could follow with confidence after a strong maiden victory. The win coming up at race number 7 after placing in behind Imperial Command and Forgiveness in her last two starts. Ā Dam Anguish now has three winners to her name as a mother with the others being Aristocrat (Sundon)Ā and Transtasman BubbleĀ (Aldebaran Eagle)
Aspirational Dream hunts them down to secure a maiden victory.
Black Billie Gee (Fear the Dragon – Billie Jean) Pouncing on the lead at the top of the Addington straight, Black Billie Gee withstood a late passing lane bid from race favourite Bad Habits to win the 8th of the night out of Addington. The longshot making the most of a dynamic mid-race tempo that saw him nestle into a nice 3-wide train with some 500m to go. Black Billie Gee had recently been luckless in behind Magician.
Another winner by Fear The Dragon, Black Billie Gee is the first foal and Ā winner out of Billie Jean. This particular breed is best known for the performances of the impressive Niobium (15 wins) and Davy Maguire (23 wins)
Addington 7thĀ July
My Ten Guitars (DownbytheseasideĀ – Ace Of Delight) Improving off a recent 2nd when placing in behind Hoo Haa, My Ten Guitars was aided in the first of the day at Addington by a clinical John Dunn drive, the G Dunn trained runner enjoying a magic 1/1 trip throughout the running of the 1980m mobile event – a late bid enough to see off the fast finishing Moonlite Blood and leader Ruskinoff. Dam Ace Of Delight won 3 in her career and has also left the race winner in Woodlea Beaver (Sweet Lou)
My Ten Guitars plays the right tune at Addington on Sunday.
Darby (Art Major – The Fascinator) You couldnāt deny the breeding here. The Yesberg trained runner found plenty in the run to the line in the third of the day out of Addington, lifting on the inside side of both Beverly Courtney and race favourite Eyeliner to score impressively in a time of 2.29.1 over the 1980m mobile.
The victory coming off the back of being luckless when in behind Hoo Haa last week. Dam The Fascinator won the Northern Mares Classic of 2015 when victorious over Rockin Ruby and Lancewood Lizzie. The damline tracks back through Impish to Smarty Pants (El Patron), mother to the star Vanderel (Holmes Hanover)
Darby makes good on her great bloodlines to score a maiden victory at Addington.
