In our weekly Clearing Maidens article we look through those breaking through for their first victories.
It could be a long-time maiden who has finally mastered race rivals or a progressive star of the track in the future – theyāve all got one thing in common now – theyāre race winners!
Addington 19th July
Wuhan (Gold AceĀ – Mapua Mabel) Another winner by the sire Gold Ace, Wuhan made the most of some early gatespeed to sit near the pace in the first of the night out of Addington, from there it was all about speed over the concluding stages, Wuhan and Kyle Cameron fending off challenges to score an impressive victory at race start #8 – the win coming after strong efforts behind C C Arden and Happy Harper recently. Wuhan is the 2ndĀ winner out of Mapua Mabel, the first being Mapua Missie.
Lakelsa (CaptaintreacherousĀ – Oh Tara) Lakelsa didnāt get all favours when last produced in behind Happy Harper – on Friday night John Dunn made sure the luck was out of the equation, taking the daughter of Captaintreacherous to the front early and extending out for a classy win late. The breeding suggests thereāll be plenty of wins left for the 4yr-old mare, her damline tracing back to the impressive Glen Moria, a Gr2 and Gr3 placed animal from the late 1970ās.
A prospect in the making, Lakelsa impresses at Addington.
Cambridge 19thĀ July
Bolt For The Hill (What The Hill – Little Miss Zigzag) Bolting for the winning post at start #4, Bolt For The Hill, seen in as a hot favourite in the 1stĀ of the night at Cambridge, duly delivered at the short odds of $1.80. The win was a confident one with S Burley leading and dictating with the 3yr-old. Bolt For The Hill is the first foal out of Little Miss Zigzag, a 6-time winner by Love You.

Delightful Chic (Bettorās DelightĀ – Rock Chic) Another favourite runs them off their hooves. A late burst that caught the eye means Delightful Chic is certainly one youāll want to follow in times to come. The Telfer trained daughter of Bettorās Delight is a close relation to the impressive Music Mistress, a daughter of Sweet Lou who has 2 wins from just the3 raceday starts.
Sheās Apples (Sweet LouĀ – Dreamy Delight) An impressive training effort from Ross Paynter. Sheās Apples produced a withering late burst to take the lead late in the 5th of the night out of Cambridge. The swift-footed type carrying on from some decent trial and workout from through the months of June and July. The dam Dreamy Delight continues with her marvelous record as a mother with the win – among her progeny are the impressive siblings Double Delight (8 wins) and Double Quick (2 wins) both daughters of Captaintreacherous.
Addington 21stĀ July
King Of Diamonds (Majestic Son – Queen Catharina) From a dam that continues to leave a nice type and performer out on the track, King Of Diamond had to be the best of the field in the second of the day out of Addington, an early gallop meaning there was plenty of work to do for the son of Majestic Son. A late move through the field and then wide on the track enough to see off the late challenges from Stella Bay and Midnight Diamond. Ā King Of Diamonds is a full brother to the tough staying type in Prince Teka meaning that this maiden victory could be the start of some meaningful form for the K Cameron trained runner.
King Of Diamonds makes up late ground to win at Addington.
Ivona Dadic (Vincent – Allison Stokke) A fitting win given the Olympics are upon us. The Stapleton trained runner, named after a prominent pole-vaulter, made the most of some mid-race tempo in the 4thĀ of the day, taking late inside runs to snare her maiden victory at start #8. Ā The win followed on from a nice performance in running second to Ucanthandlethetruth in the middle of June. Ā Dam Allison Stokke won 2 from 40 raceday starts with Ivona Dadic being her first foal and winner.
Vin Rules (Vincent – Cullens Rule) Ruling them all at Addington, Vin Rules showed plenty of late speed, taking a passing lane passage to master Sweet Trixie in the shadows of the post in the 7th on the card. The win followed closely behind some sound trial and workout form in recent weeks. The Alan Edge trained 3yr-old is out of Cullens Rule (Christian Cullen) a mare who started her broodmare career by leaving the 6-time winner Ideal Rule as her first foal.
Vin Rules takes the shortcuts and wins the 7thĀ on the card at Addington. Ā Ā
