In our weekly Clearing Maidens article we look through those breaking through for their first victories.
It could be a long-time maiden who has finally mastered race rivals or a progressive star of the track in the future – they all got one thing in common now – theyāre race winners!
Addington 12thĀ July
Lime In A Bottle (Imperial CountĀ – Gina) This is a breed that we covered in our Speed In The Breed article as recently as last week. The Matthew Williamson trained runner made the best of some of her gate-speed, slotting into a nice trailing sit behind race leader Massive Merc and then mustering a passing lane bid over the furlong over the last furlong to win the first of the night in fine style. The win carries on from some encouraging displays at the Addington track in her last two appearances there. Known performers Time In A BottleĀ (Majestic Son)Ā Clifden Clowers (Thanksgiving)Ā and Virginia Clowers (Creatine)Ā are all out of the Gina.
Lime In A Bottle spears to a passing lane win at Addington
C C Arden (CaptaintreacherousĀ – Ardenās Choice) Impressing from the van in the 3rd of the night out of Addington, C C Arden brought the manners and dictated terms, finding enough to see off a late bid from Iāll Be Back to score a maiden victory at start #2. The victory comes after throwing in some rough steps on debut when beaten by Irish Dream. C C Arden is the first winner out of the Panspacificflight mare in Ardenās Choice, the winner of the Woodslands Stud / Caduceus Club 2YO Fillies Classic of 2015 when beating out Northern Velocity and Bettor Love Me.
Alexandra Park 12thĀ July
Shake A Leg (Downbytheseaside – Saturation) A model of consistency in the career so far, Shake A Leg shook every leg he had in the run to the line at Alexandra Park on Friday night, kicking strongly over the final furlong from a leading position to capture his maiden victory at race day start #11. Shake A Leg had previously placed in all 10 of his prior starts, an amazing record thatās now been topped with the victory. Shake A Leg continues the strong returns out of Dam Saturation – her progeny includes the star pacer in Besotted, a winner of $300ā000, and the 19-time winner in Infatuation (American Ideal)
Shake A Leg, ever consistent, finally wins to pass maidens in fine style.
Aldebaran DB (Muscle Mass –Dream Belle) Another to dictate terms and prosper from it, Aldebaran DB wasnāt being luckless in the 3rd out of Alexandra Park, the impressive gelding holding off the challenge of Loteria late to bring up win #1 at race day start #4. The win adding the 1 numeral to a collect of a 3,2 and 5 derived from the short racing career prior. Dam Dream Belle was unraced and is now a winning broodmare, Aldebaran DB being her first foal.
Addington 14thĀ July
Oliver (Majestic Son – Susan) Able to dictate terms from the front of the race in the 2nd of the day at Addington, Oliver enjoyed making the tempo as opposed to being dictated to, the Colin & Julie DeFilippi runner seeing off a late challenge from Opawa Peak and King Of Diamonds to secure his maiden win at start #1. Going on the breeding behind him it would actually surprise if the 3yr-old doesnāt win again – his mother Susan won 8 races and has left her mark as a broodmare, leaving the 14-time winner in Majestic One (Majestic Son)Ā and 3-time winner in Agostini (Majestic Son)Ā among other winners.
Oliver sets the tempo and holds off race rivals at Addington.
The Night Fox (Vincent – Honey To The Bee) A busy horse but obviously one thatās fit enough to take the racing, The Night Fox, fresh off a 7thĀ in behind C C Arden on Friday night, proved too good for race rivals in the third on the card. The 2.34.5 over the 2000m stand enough to see off Sweet Raine and Patrice in the run to the line. The Night Fox is the 2ndĀ winner left by the Mach Three mare in Honey To The Bee, the first being Sportscam (Sportswriter)
Farewell Spit (Sunshine Beach – Lucie Boshier) Another one to prosper over the short course stand conditions. Farewell Spit showed a tough character when running down race leader Whosedreamingnow to claim his maiden win at race day start #11. The form in recent times had suggested a win wasnāt too far away with a 3rdĀ place in behind Patiro coming on the 23rdĀ of June. The Andrew Stuart trained runner is the third winner out of Lucie Boshier joining Chromozone (Mach Three)Ā and Dennis Denuto (Changeover) as those that have previously greeted the judge.
Farewell Spit runs them down at Addington.
