In our weekly Clearing Maidens article we look through those breaking through for their first victories.
It could be a long-time maiden who has finally mastered race rivals or a progressive star of the track in the future – they’ve all got one thing in common now – they’re race winners!
Cambridge 10th September
Chesinov (Orlando Vici – Barsukova) The marvelous run of form by those out of the Luk Chin stable continues with this son of Orlando Vici. Not having placed in his previous 10 starts Chesinov found winning form on Tuesday, seeing off Voodoo Magic and Dolly P in a limited field in the 1st of the day.
Luk Chin simply taking the shortcuts over the final 300m to score in 2.54.6 over the 2200m mobile trip. Barsukova has been a wonderful broodmare – all 7 foals having been winners on the track, the 9-time winner Tereskova and the now 7-win Mazeppa being the most successful.

Mack Pack (Bettor’s Delight – Lady Antebellum) Another family full of speed comes to the fore with a maiden victory. Racing out of the Hollis and Robertson stables, Mack Pack notched up an impressive maiden win at start #5 on Tuesday, leading throughout the 2200m trip to score by a length from Inlouof and Amazing Captain. This is the family of notable performers like Billy Badger, Stars Tonight, and Need You Know, the 4YO Diamond winner of 2021 when besting Plutonium Lady and Rocknroll Mama.
Invercargill 12th September
Tilly Dunnage (Fear The Dragon – Zeonly Survivor) Another by Fear The Dragon breathing a little bit of fire onto race rivals. This Wayne Adams trained filly was most impressive in the 3rd of the day out of Invercargill, strolling away from the lead to score by over 3 lengths in 2.07 over the 1700m mobile trip. The win coming up after a debut 8th when galloping behind the mobile behind Feta Go Fernco.
Dam Zeonly Survivor won a solitary race from 20 starts with Back On Board, a 22-time winner by Christian Cullen, being the most notable performer among her offspring.

Buckie Dundee (Net Ten EOM – Tact Ruby) A consistent formline that now has a winning turn included in it. Buckie Dundee, having produced some nice results in his first 10 race day starts, found enough over the concluding stages to score in the last of the day, outstaying the closing Miki Cohen late to win at big odds of 26/1. The win means the Bettor’s Delight mare in Tact Ruby is now a winning broodmare.
Addington 13th September
The Con Artist (Vincent – Love The Odds) Another strong looking winner from the sire Vincent, The Con Artist appeared almost untouched in the run to the line in the first out of Addington on Friday night. The victory coming after a debut 2nd last week behind Always Be Batman. The Con Artist adds to the growing tally of winners mothered by the mare Love The Odds (Bettor’s Delight)
Spicey Crunch (Captain Crunch – Spicey Lady) Spicey Crunch looks to have a real quality about her and she certainly showed a little of that potential on Friday at Addington. Tim Williams took luck out of the occasion in the 10th of the night, leading from the front throughout to notch an effortless win from Brandi Snapp and Oneroa, both of who had closed from the pegs late. The win caps a consistent run of form for the daughter of Captain Crunch. One to follow in feature events.

Alexandra Park 13th September
Beetastic (Bettor’s Delight – Its All On) After an impressive debut 3rd behind Always Be Mattie Beetastic turned it up a couple of notches on Friday night, finding enough over the last furlong to master Little Hoofananny in the shadows of the post to score at start #2.
Its All On extends the winning run as a broodmare too, the likes of Hugotastic (Sweet Lou) and Bettor Get It Won (Bettor’s Delight) also winners at the track.
Viscount Mackendon (Volstead – Princess Mackendon) Vsciount Mackendon might have been a touch slow away from the tapes but the son of Volstead didn’t have any issue getting home at a rate of knots, the 3yr-old sweeping into things for Crystal Hackett over the final 300m to claim a small field in the last of the night out of Alexandra Park. The win came up at start #4. Viscount Mackendon is the second winner out of Princess Mackendon, the first being Maro Mackendon (Muscle Mass)

Oamaru 15th September
Our Evie Rae (Majestic Son – Letz Hope) The money was right on the mark when it came to the 1st out of Oamaru on Sunday with Our Evie Rae, fresh off a nice Ashburton run, made easy work of race rivals, posting a sound win in 3.27.3 over the 2600m standing start event. A late drive into the trailing position from Ricky May was enough to see the daughter of Majestic Son win by some 2 lengths. Dam Letz Hope

Hugo (Always B Miki – Jenna Franco) A surprise winner – at least to those that let the son of Always B Miki drift out to a $17/1 price. Patiently driven by Robbie Close, Hugo made good ground down the outer of the track over the last furlong to score an impressive debut after missing away from the tapes. The win came off the back of a 3rd at trials on the 12th of September.
The McDermott trained runner is well enough bred to go on with things too, Jenna Franco having already produced the 6-time winner in My Wee Man and the 4-time winner in Swap Over .
Itz Flash Harry (A Rocknroll Dance – Itz Fatima Kiwi) A position on the back of race leader Ohoka Niko proved the winning scenario for this T Yesberg trained runner on Sunday. The decent mid-race tempo helping when the gaps came late over the 2000m mobile event. Itz Flash Harry had previously met with little luck in his 2 previous starts, having recently placed 9th behind the impressive Rakero Ice.
The win gives dam Itz Fatima Kiwi her 4th individual winner.
