Yesterday’s win for Keep On Dreaming at Winton made it the sixty seventh time Alister Black has trained a winner for Ian and Lindsay Thomson who incidentally have provided him with most of his 93 career harness racing wins.
The partnership goes all the way back to 2012 when Real Tiz won at Forbury Park.
Keep On Dreaming warming up
Over recent years Ian and Lindsay have invested in improved stock and latterly have been getting great returns with plenty of quality winners. Keep On Dreaming looks to be their next good horse.
Yesterday’s win was the three year old’s fourth in just eight starts, and his trainer was confident of a good showing.
“He’s come on well after his first up run when he was posted three wide on a 56 last half. Actually I felt he looked a lot better after that race which is a pleasing sign. His work had been nice since, so I thought being a six horse field that he was a very strong winning chance,” Black said.
The race was full of drama with Booties Delight, Brigadiers Son and Bensons Mate all vying for the lead at some point in the first 800 metres. That suited both Keep On Dreaming and Artatac who both settled at the rear of the field. With 200 metres to run Bensons Mate was understandably starting to get the stitch and Keep On Dreaming and Artatac began to storm home late. Keep On Dreaming got the final knockout blow, winning by a neck with Bensons Mate a length and a half back in third.
Keep On Dreaming winning for Brad Williamson
The winning time was 1-54.9 and they all staggered home in 60 seconds for the last 800 metres.
With the Christmas New Year Racing circuit about to get underway Black says there are plenty of options for Keep On Dreaming.
“There’s that much racing for him I’m not sure where he’ll go. Something like the Roxburgh Cup or the Cromwell Cup or we may even go to Omakau. I’m just not sure.”
Some of the races on the radar are part of the Southern Country Cup Series which are run from a stand.
“He’s very good from the standing start. Early in the season he had a couple of workouts here and began beautifully both times. It’s not to say that he won’t muck it up when he goes to the races,” (laughter).
Black’s seventy winners for Ian and Lindsay are: Aveross Brachole (1), Pulling The Strings (3), Rattling Thunder (1), Abraham Jones (2), Real Tiz (1), Tic Tac Bromac (3), Franco Normandy (2), Franco Nick Nack (2), Extreme Rules (1), New York Town (4), Ossessione (6), Six Diamonds (6), Kilowatt Kid (5), Lawrence (5), Vintage Cheddar (11) Get Lucky (7), Zaccy Mach (2), Keep On Dreaming (4), Chilli Franco (1)
