Quality trotter Cracker Hill (Muscle Hill) who last raced more than two years ago is on the verge of making a comeback to harness racing.

The gelding has raced just sixteen times over three seasons, winning seven, and being placed for seven. During that time he was trained at Oamaru by Brad Williamson.
He last started in the 2020 Dominion Handicap but subsequently succumbed to issues with one of his hind legs and so the five year old was sent to Greg and Nina Hope at Woodend Beach.
“He walked on the walker for about a month, then slow jogging, faster jogging and trot work. He’s been fast working for the last three months,” son Ben said.
After plenty of input, in the last two weeks he’s had two trials at Rangiora both of which he won.
“His two trials have been good. It’s early days but the signs are positive. He seems like the type of horse that doesn’t want to win by too much. As soon as he passes them he thinks the job is done.”
Hope said the team is still at the planning stage regarding when he’ll resume his racing career, but the Group Three David Moss Stakes at Invercargill this Saturday is being considered.
“He’s been feeling great and he’s one hundred percent sound. He’s got a lovely way of going and you can tell he’s a good horse for sure.”
