Harness racing junior driver Craig Ferguson had one of those days at Wyndham yesterday that all young drivers dream of when he reined home four winners in the slushy conditions.
Craig has been involved with harness racing from a young age, helping out his father who has always had a few in work.
" I started out helping dad and that's where I learned the basics."
" From there I went to local trainer Brendon McLellan who was really good to me and then last August I started with my present boss Wayne Adams," Craig told Harnesslink earlier today.
Craig was happy to give Harnesslink a brief comment on each of his four winners yesterday.
Christian Grey – " I was lucky to get a run up on the inner from the outside of the gate. He got out when he needed to and if you can save him for one run he has got a real sharp sprint on him"
My Guy Mac – " He just continues to improve this fella. He never use to have much speed but he is a much more rounded horse this time in and he won really impressively yesterday. When he gets the kind of run he got yesterday he is very hard to beat"
The Wrath Of Robyn – " He is such a great stayer and with the track being like it was it played into his hands a bit. Some didn't handle it but it didn't worry him at all"
Rory – "He got the perfect trip really. He is a high speed horse and if you can save him for one run at them he has got a real good turn of foot"
The four winners yesterday took Craig's total for the season to fourteen and he presently sits third on the national junior drives list.
" Like every junior driver I would love to win the junior drivers premiership,"
" It would be a huge thrill to win it from a base in Southland," Craig said.
The professional manner in which Craig drove his four winners yesterday would suggest he is a big chance to do just that.
