After having a double and a treble there already this month, Carter Dalgety looks set for another productive night at Addington tonight (Jun. 16).
The talented junior driver will drive three very strong chances for his parents Cran and Chrissie Dalgety with Fernetti (R2), Ohoka Le Bron (R5) and Franco Sinatra (R6) as well as two outside drives in Glenthorne (R7) and Betterwithbling (R9).
Fernetti was a hugely popular winner at Addington a fortnight ago and Dalgety is hopeful of more of the same in race 2, the BC Plumbers Mobile Pace.
“It is a step up though and he had a good trip first up but he has really improved and the 2600 should suit.”
Carter bought the son of Sweet Lou at the sales for $22,500 and he has since been syndicated to some mates and family members.
Last start Fernetti’s supporters turned up en masse for his debut and certainly made their presence felt as he got up the passing lane to win by half a length.
So will they be back tonight?
“One hundred per cent,” says Dalgety, “in fact it could be even bigger.”
Race 5, the Universal Plumbing Mobile Pace, features Ohoka Le Bron who Dalgety describes as “probably my best of the night”.
“He steps back from the three-year-old races and looks a big chance.”
The winner of one from seven starts, Ohoka le Bron was second to Sharp As A Tac at Ashburton last start.
A fast-finishing third in the same race was Franco Sinatra. He’ll line up with highly-rated stablemate Black Pearl in race 6, the Chesters Plumbing and Bathroom Centre Mobile Pace.
“I’ve got a lot of time for him,” Dalgety says of Franco Sinatra, who’s three of six career starts, “he’s progressive and this is still his first campaign and he’s thriving.”
“And Black Pearl has been training super… and her last start was great behind Millwood Nike.”
That was a fast finishing third in the Magness Benrow Sires Stakes 3YO Fillies Championship (Group 1) at Alexandra Park on May 19.
Of his other drives he rates Betterwithbling as a “potential blowout … he’s got the ability”.
Dalgety goes into tonight in red hot form, having reined a treble at Addington on June 1 with Evangalist, Fernetti and Watermelon Sugar and then a double a week or so later with Watermelon Sugar and Sweet Coco.
