Tonight (Sep. 30) sees the return at Addington, of Dominion Handicap winner Sundees Son (Majestic Son).
The seven year old last raced in Auckland in late May and has had just one trial at Rangiora prior to resumption.
āHeās pretty big in condition and will need the run. His trial last week was just what we wanted. He had a blow and has come through the run well. Because heās older heāll need a couple of hard races under his belt to get back to full fitness,ā said regular driver John Dunn.
His pathway to the Dominion will be similar to last years – the Group Three Canterbury Park Trotting Cup at Addington on 14th October, then the South Bay Trotting Cup at Kaikoura on the 31st of October.
Meanwhile Sundees Sonās full sister Sunnys Sister ran an outstanding trial at Rangiora on Wednesday.
The two year old filly got well back in her 2600 metre heat and stormed home through the middle of the pack to win by half a head.
āShe a bit like him (Sundees Son) when he was young. Sheās a work in progress. I donāt want to push her too hard, and sheās got something there which is pleasing. Sheās got speed but sheās just not a hundred percent in her gait yet.ā
Dunn says sheās not eligible for the Harness Million but thereās a Sires Stakes race for her later in the racing calendar.
