Expect to see more of the Steve and Amanda Telfer team in the south as the harness racing season begins to ramp up.
The Canterbury arm of the operation brought three horses to Winton today with Rock N Dash and Cloudy Bay both winning, whilst their other runner Show Me Heaven ran an unlucky second.
Rock N Dash recording the first winner for Steve and Amanda Telfer in the south.
āTheyāre just tipping their toes in the water but with the numbers theyāve got and with the stakes the way they are itās pretty enticing to get down here,ā said driver Tim Williams who drove all three Telfer runners.
Rock N Dash (Rock N Roll Heaven) was the first winner the partners have trained in Southland, but Williams is a familiar face in the south having spent the early part of his career with Ascot Park trainer Wayne Adam.
Returning
He then worked for a good period for the All-Stars Canterbury stable. However he took the opportunity to drive for the Telfers when they opened a satellite stable in Canterbury.
āIām enjoying it. Theyāve got well-bred stock, so Iāve fallen on my feet. Weāve got twenty in work at the moment which is a nice number. If theyāve got the right oneās theyāll not be afraid to send them south.ā
The Telfers are serious about their commitment to racing in the South Island, having recently bought Jack Smolenskiās old property.
āTheyāre going to knock it over and start again and build a big flash barn. David White is the foreman; Amanda is based down here full time and Ellie Barron has just started in the last fortnight, so weāve got a nice team around us.ā
