Down Under Winners with Carter Dalgety

Down Under Pacer adds another major harness racing win to their record.

Saturday saw the running of the $200,000 Battle Of Lake Erie at Northfield Park in Ohio. Battling for glory in the race were nine top quality pacers.  

The winner was down under pacer Funatthebeach N (Somebeachsomewhere). It was a big win for the gelding and his second feature win of the year. As he won the $549,000 Final of the MGM Borgata Series earlier in the year. 

The race started in fireworks fashion when Joe Bongiorno sent Nicholas Beach out of the gate hard to find the front but was immediately faced with hot pressure from race favourite Ocean Rock. They ran the opening quarter(400m) in a blistering 25.2 seconds. 

Reinsmen Jordan Stratton settled Funatthebeach N patiently early while the leaders continued to set up a lethal pace up front. The field reached the half(800m) in a dazzling 52.3 seconds, which had leaders gasping for air.

Then nearing three quarters (1200m) Funatthebeach N received a beautiful live cover in a three wide move which bought him right into the race. Then into the stretch the leaders tired majorly which allowed Funatthebeach N to pounce. The Mark Ford trained and owned pacer had to wear down a game Jimmy Freight and did so to past the post in first clocking 1:49.2.

This win was a new lifetime mark for Funatthebeach N who is out of top performing down under mare Minnie Moose (Bettors Delight). He now has a nice earnings tally of $512,267.
