Down Under winners with Carter Dalgety

Down Under trainer wins $1 Million race.

Down Under harness racing trainer Nifty Norman made his way to Canada on Saturday to race his best horses. The big race of the night was the $1 million Mohawk Million for 2yo trotters and Norman lined up the exciting “Venerable”, a 2yo trotting daughter of Walner.

Starting from a difficult post of no 9, driver David Miller worked the filly forward early to soon reach the lead. Having control from the half, the pair were able to dictate and showed a lot of fight up the long Mohawk Park stretch to take victory in 1:54.2. A super impressive win and time for a 2yo trotting filly beating the boys and deservedly taking home $1 million.

The down under success didn’t stop there. The down under duo of trainer Chris Ryder and driver Dexter Dunn lined up the very talented Niki Hill in the $500,000 Shes A Great Lady Final.

A 2yo pacing filly by Always B Miki. Dunn steered the hot favourite out of gate five to show patience but then eventually taking the bull by the horns and made a move to grab the lead. From then on the 2yo filly cut out solid sectionals and paced to the line very strong and win the $500,000 final in 1:50.2. 

Emerging sire Always B Miki had a successful day out winning both of the two big pacing features for 2yo boys and girls. The $500,000 Shes A Great Lady Final for 2yo Fillies and the $824,000 Metro Pace Final for 2yo colts and geldings.

A down under pacer was also a winner on the night. That being Speedy Dominic A. The 7yo American Ideal gelding paced a big mile in 1:49.2 for trainer C Auciello and driver James McDonald. Owned by large down under supporter MT Stables Ontario.
