Down Under Winners with Carter Dalgety

Down Under horses make up a complete field!

It was a stella harness racing occasion on Saturday night at New York’s Yonkers Raceway. In the eighth race on the program there was a competitive field of seven runners lining up and what separated this race from the others, was that every single horse running in this race was a down under racehorse. A very rare feat to occur and quite an achievement for down under harness racing and breeding.

The winner of the $12,000 Pace was Walkinshaw N. A 9yo Mach Three gelding trained by Lance Hudson. He was the favoured runner of the group and raced accordingly, winning comfortably in 1:52.3.

Walkinshaw N, a winner of well over $300,000 started his career off in New Zealand where he won six races and placed at Group 1 level. He was then exported to Australia mid-way through 2017 and went on to win a further 11 races, including his first four straight. Now racing in America where he entered in December of 2019 he is continuing to race consistently. 

The second placegetter in the race was Ideal Star N. Another horse to race in both New Zealand and Australia. He is an American Ideal gelding who was a 12 race winner when down under. 

In third place was the well-known and top performer Majordan A. The Art Major son now trained by Linda Toscano that has won over $600,000 and holds a lifetime mark of 1:47.4. His seriously impressive record stands at 8 Group race placings and 10 Group race wins. Most notable being his two Group 1 victory’s in the Len Smith Mile and Newcastle Mile.
