Star southern harness racing pacer Dreams Are Free (Captaintreacherous) could be heading north next month with likely targets the G2 Alabar Classic on March 1st and the $150,000 Group One Northern Derby on March 22nd both at Alexandra Park.

The now three year old colt was one of the star two year olds last season, winning three of his five starts and putting in some massive runs.

“He’s taken a bit longer to come up than we’d hoped. We would have liked to have him ready for the Harness Million (16th February), but he won’t be ready for that. It’s good that we can get flights out of Christchurch every week so that makes a hell of a difference. I can take horses from here through to Regan’s (Todd) on say a Monday, train them as per normal and then fly out on Tuesday night,” trainer Nathan Williamson said.

Meanwhile Dreams Are Free’s half-brother Always Dreaming which Williamson purchased for $85,000 at the 2023 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales in Christchurch was at the Wyndham Workouts on Sunday with Merlin’s half-sister Captains Mistress (Captaintreacherous).

“They’ll go to another workout on Friday then qualify on the 16th. We’re looking at racing them in March when the two year old racing starts. They’re both nice and we haven’t asked them to do too much. We’ve just concentrated on their manners and gait. They’ve been in work since they were bought with short breaks, so they’ve had a lot of training. We’ll find out if they’ve got a wee bit of the necessary, but we do like them both at this stage.”
