Entries for NZB Standardbred’s 2022 National Yearling Sale are now open, with the harness racing sale taking place next summer at Karaka and Christchurch from Sunday 13 February to Wednesday 16 February.
Since entering the standardbred auction sphere approximately three years ago, NZB Standardbred’s National Yearling Sale has become renowned for their prolific results throughout Australasia, and the majority of key sale indicators continuing to improve each year.
- 2021’s combined aggregate increase of more than $1.2 million was up 10% on 2020’s overall aggregate
- The combined average has continued to climb by 4% year on year
- 2021 saw three lots sell for $300,000 or more, breaking NZB Standardbred sale records
- In 2020, NZB Standardbred broke an Australasian record by selling the highest-ever recorded purchase for a trotting yearling at $280,000
- NZB Standardbred’s 2020 yearling sale also saw a phenomenal nine horses sell for $200,000 or more
NZB Director and Operations Manager James Jennings is optimistic about selling next year in February.
“After a successful three years hosting the Sale, we have seen significant growth in our New Zealand industry in its entirety.”
“As evidenced in the last 12 months, the nature of global horse auctions has also changed substantially.
“During this time, we have continued to operate as market leaders in Australasian standardbred sales.
“We eagerly await a functioning travel bubble in time for the Sale next year, with many of our Australian clients desperate to get back on New Zealand soil to experience our hospitality, including our highly anticipated DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka hotel opening,” Jennings said.

Each yearling entered into the National Standardbred Yearling Sale is eligible to be nominated for the Harness Million Sale Race Series. 2022 will see the fourth yearling intake of graduates go through the ring, with the Series’ one-off payment structure popular amongst owners and trainers who purchase though NZB Standardbred Sales.
