Entries for NZB Standardbred’s 2025 National Yearling Sale are now open, with the Sale taking place next summer in Auckland on Sunday 16 February and Christchurch on Tuesday 18 February.
The Christchurch session will see a refreshed format, with the Sale at the Canterbury Agricultural Park to be condensed to one day, with one break day prior to allow time for travel and inspections to take place.
In just six years, NZB Standardbred has produced a prolific number of Group One winners and racetrack stars, highlighted by another incredible season on the track. This, joined with leading technology, world-famous Kiwi hospitality and the world-renowned buying experience will again combine for the highlight event this summer.
After recently canvassing in Australasia, NZB Standardbred Manager Cam Bray is enthusiastic about the upcoming sales season.
“Since 2019, our combined aggregate has increased from $12 million to closer to $14 million, plus a steady increase in our average from $40,000 to $51,000.”
“While the 2023 sales season saw a slight decrease overall during a tough period economically, there has since been a shift in the domestic scene with a number of incentives and increases in prizemoney with some more positive news to be announced very soon,” he added.
“From an international perspective, New Zealand horses continue to punch above their weight and buyers keep coming back to New Zealand as the source of quality, resilient and sound racehorses that dominate on the track.
“We continue to strengthen our relationships with our major markets like Australia and USA, while we also build on exciting emerging markets such as China and the Philippines to add into the mix.
“We’ve already had strong interest in the 2025 Sale, so we look forward to getting out to the farms to inspect the next crop of champions and putting together a quality catalogue for buyers.”
With the oldest just turned six years of age, NZB Standardbred graduates have claimed 61 Group One wins and 187 stakes wins. During the 2023 season alone, graduates won 23 Group One races and 99 stakes races, highlighted by the likes of Don’t Stop Dreaming (NZ), Merlin (NZ), Millwood Nike (NZ), Allamericanlover (NZ), Rubira (NZ), Got the Chocolates (NZ) and many more.
All horses offered at the Sale are eligible for the NZB Standardbred’s lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series, with approximately $1 million in prizemoney on offer for graduates.
