Kiwi harness racing horses have been on fire in North America over the past few weeks and on Saturday night at The Meadowlands, speedy He’s Watching mare Watch Me Now won a USD$26,000 Fillies and Mares pace in a blistering 1:49.4 for driver Jim Marohn Jr.
Marohn Jr took the initiative early with Watch Me Now, spearing across to lead from wide out in gate 8 and coasting to the easiest of wins without the mare being asked for too much in the home straight.
It is not the first time Watch Me Now has run sub 1:50. At her debut start on USA soil, Watch Me Now destroyed her racing rivals, winning by a good margin as one of the outsiders in 1:49.3, but that was later followed by a disappointing run on a wet track where the mare was later found to be sick.
Back to her brilliant best, Watch Me Now is currently two wins from three starts on American soil and is being aimed at the $250,000 Milton Stakes up in Canada at the end of the month, where she will face the best fillies and mares in a showdown over 1 mile at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
