Phoebe K is a maiden no longer after picking up her first harness racing win in the IRT. Your Horse. Our Passion. Mobile Trot (1980m) at Addington Raceway on Tuesday.
The daughter of Sebastian K was making her fifth raceday appearance after making her debut in last month.
Driver Tim Williams launched Phoebe K off the gate to take an early lead and the pair didnāt look back, winning the race comfortably by 1-1/2 lengths over Nubliah Chamay, with a further 1-1/4 lengths back to Notasbadasilook in third.
Trainer Brendon Hill was thrilled with the win and said he was confident she would gain an early lead after her trial a week prior.
āShe went off the gate at the trials the other day, so it didnāt surprise me that she went forward,ā Hill said.
āIt was a nice drive by Tim and she did everything right, and was too good for them in the end.
āIt was really good for the owners. Some of them are in Thailand, so it was a bit of a shame that they missed out on the win today.ā
PHOEBE K REPLAY
While Hill said the mare has her quirks, he has been pleased with her progress this preparation.
āShe has come a long way this time in. She has been quite frustrating, she can trot but she has been doing things wrong,ā he said.
āI thought I would go back to the mobile today and it worked.
āTim said she feels like she has got a lot of speed and she did it really easily.ā
Hill believes Phoebe K has done enough this preparation and will appreciate a spell to mature further.
āI will talk to the owners but she might have a well-deserved break now and come back when she is a bit stronger,ā he said.
Meanwhile, Hill is looking forward to returning to Addington Raceway on Friday where he will line-up Man United in the IRT. Your Horse. Our Passion. Mobile Pace (1980m).
The son of Sportswriter has been in good form this preparation, culminating in a runner-up result at Addington last Friday and Hill believes he can go one better this week, albeit from a trickier draw.
āIt was an inch perfect drive by Ricky (May) the other day,ā Hill said.
āHe did everything to win the race and put three lengths on them turning in like he did and just got beat by a very nice two-year-old.
āHe is knocking on the door.
āHe is bright and well, but he has got a horror draw (8) which isnāt going to help.ā
