Firsties, harness racing’s brand-new campaign to encourage race-goers to get on-track, is about to make its South Island debut.
After two successful pilot events at Alexandra Park in December, this week will see the Firsties Friday at the Trots Race Night at Addington Raceway.
The concept is all about encouraging those in the 20-40 age group to get to the races and experience first-hand what harness racing is all about.
They can be newcomers to the sport or friends of people who are already involved but might not be regular race goers.
To get involved people have to pre-register for a Firsties Zone ticket. Those registered can expect a complementary drink on arrival, food and beverage specials, prizes and giveaways, and friendly support and guidance throughout the night.

A friendly crew will be on hand to look after guests with behind-the-scenes tours offering the chance to meet drivers, trainers and horses, and to learn more about what makes harness racing so unique.
The first two Firsties events at Alexandra Park were hosted by Jordyn Bublitz. For Addington, the reins are handed over to Kimberly Butt, a high-profile trainer-driver and Group 1 winner who will help guide newcomers through what to expect on race night.
Friday’s event starts from 6pm and goes through to 9pm.
Firsties events will continue to roll out across the country during the year. For updates and to register, visit thetrots.nz by clicking here
