The 2024 National Weanling Sale is just a matter of days away, set to take place on Thursday 23 May from 12pm (NZT) at the Karaka Sales Centre.
Featuring a selection of the very best potential pinhook, racing and breeding stock on offer, the popular weanling session will this year be complimented by a select yearling session (Lot 107 & 108).
The Sale itself is headlined by graduates such as Aardiebytheseaside (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Alta Meteor (NZ) (Art Major), Forever Dream (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Mantra Blue (NZ) (Sweet Lou), Maestoso (NZ) (Majestic Son), Sinbad (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Turn The Page (NZ) (Vincent) plus recent Harness Million contenders Dave Duley (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), Kiss (NZ) (Always B Miki) and Ultimate Racy Girl (NZ) (Ultimate Machete).
Since the release of the catalogue in April, there have been a notable amount of pedigree updates.
- On account of Woodlands Stud, Lot 14 is a full-sister to recent maiden winner Lincoln Cove(NZ) (Downbytheseaside) for the Lincoln Farms team, both out of the Bettor’s Delight mare Everlasting Grace.
- Offered by Tardina Stud, Lot 16 (What the Hill filly) is related to Diamond Racing’s recent two-year-old trotting stakes winner Ya Rite Darl (NZ) (What the Hill).
- Lot 20, an Art Major filly on account of Alabar already has an impressive pedigree as a sibling to five winners including stakes performer Flying Even Bettor(NZ) (Bettor’s Delight). The full-brother Demon Blue(NZ) (Art Major) has added to that tally for the dam after his maiden win in the two-year-old young guns heat recently for Mark and Nathan Purdon.
- Also on account of Alabar is Lot 46, a filly by Captain Crunch who is closely related to stakes-performer Turn the Page (NZ) (Vincent), recent winner of the Listed Perth Race for Roses to add to her nine-win tally.
- Lot 66 offered by Woodlands Stud is a Downbytheseaside filly out of Queen of Hearts, making her a close relation to recent Group One performer Queen of Swords (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) who ran a gallant third in the Group One NZ Sires Stakes 3YO fillies final for Diamond Racing and the Off N Racing syndicate.
- Lot 68 is a filly by the Woodlands Stud sire Sweet Lou from the family of recent Listed Melton Classic 3YO Trot winner Derek The Jet(NZ)(Volstead).
- Lot 71 an Always B Miki filly on account of Alabar. This filly reigns from the family of the incredible racehorse Self Assured (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) who has added two stakes’ performances to his CV when placing second in both the Listed Roy Purdon Memorial and the Group One NZ Messenger.
- On account of Woodlands Stud, Lot 76 is an American Ideal colt from the family of Aardie’s Express (NZ) (Always B Miki) who added Group One glory to his name in the Group One Queen Elizabeth Mile at Menangle as well as the Group Three Sibelia Stakes since the catalogue went to print.
- Lot 90, a colt by champion sire Bettor’s Delight, is from the family of recent Group One winner and NZB Standardbred graduate Cyclone Jordy (NZ) (Art Major) who won Group One ATC Stakes, while this Lot is also related to Don Hugo(NZ) (Art Major) who is twice Listed placed in New South Wales since the catalogue went to print.
- Offered by Alabar, Lot 91 is a filly by Vincent from the family of Group One placegetter We Walk by Faith (NZ)(Bettor’s Delight).
- Lot 97 is an Always B Miki colt offered by Alabar, is related to recent Listed winner Millwood Bliss (NZ) (Sweet Lou).
- Lot 104, a Sweet Lou filly offered by Woodlands Stud is out of Bettor’s Delight mare Czanyi. Making this Lot closely related to the impressive racehorse Catch A Wave(NZ) (Captaintreacherous), who has added two more Group One wins to his pedigree recently on top of five existing Group One victories.
- Lot 108 a quality yearling colt by Captaintreacherous offered by Breckon Farms, is a half-brother to recent winner Le Twist (NZ) (Sweet Lou) for trainer Mark Jones. This colt also hails from the family of Braeview Kelly (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) who has added two stakes’ placings to the pedigree since the catalogue went to print.
All weanlings purchased are eligible to be entered for NZB Standardbred’s lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series. The Series consists of principal two-year-old and three-year-old races for colts and geldings, fillies and trotters individually, where NZB Standardbred graduates can contest for their share in a one-million-dollar prizepool.
Phone and online bidding are a welcomed option for buyers who are unable to physically attend the Sale.
