Four Wise Women (Majestic Son) had a lot to live up to today (Apr. 28) when she debuted at the Rangiora harness racing meeting.
Relatives like Harriot Hughes (Sundon), Harriet Of Mot (Monarchy) and Five Wise Men (Muscle Hill) won their share of good races so the pressure was on to live up to her pedigree.
After leading early the Craig and Aimee Edmonds trained filly in the hands of John Dunn relinquished the front and took a trail. Halfway up the straight she trotted nicely up the passing lane to beat Forgiveness by a length and three quarters.
āToday she did everything right, got the right trip and John said she won pretty easily. Heās driven her at the trials and quite likes her too,ā Craig said.
The four wise women who race the horse are co-trainer Aimee, her sister Jenna Dunn, Craigās wife Donna and Dr Mitsy Taylor.
Todayās race was a qualifier for the Anne Thompson Graduation Series so the final of the series is now a likely target.
āI just wanted to give her a few starts for her to get ringcraft. Sheās a good doing filly. When I first took her to the trials I got a bit of a hard time about how big and round she was.ā
Meanwhile Edmonds says quality trotter Five Wise Men is due back in work next week.
āHeās had a few problems with his suspensory which has been treated. The results looked good so we gave him a break. We scanned him before he went out and it looked really good and all the fibres lined up properly. Hopefully when he gets back heāll be right but itās one of those things you never know.ā
Five Wise Men last raced at Omakau in January 2023. From just twenty six starts heās won nine races including three Group Ones – The Northern Trotting Derby, the New Zealand Trotting Derby and the Three Year Old Ruby.
