Eight year old trotter Superfast Gorsey (Superfast Stuart) won his third race at start fifty one for Greenpark harness racing trainer Chris Thornley and daughter Gemma, who drove the squaregaiter today.

“My nickname is Gorsey because I had a hedge cutting business many moons ago. When we went to Superfast Stuart I knew the perfect name for him,” Chris said.

Gemma got Superfast Gorsey away well and settled three back on the fence with Brianna leading and Tinkerbelle sitting in the trail.

“Gemma drove a treat of a race. We think he’s got a short sprint on him and he got held up a bit. It turned out to be the best thing that happened,”

SUPERFAST GORSEY REPLAY

Superfast Gorsey beat Tinkerbelle by half a length.

The win was the horse’s third and second at Cromwell.

“He does like the grass and to be fair he likes the short distances so I was a bit nervous. But it didn’t worry him. He’s a lovely horse at home and nothing worries him. When he gets on the float he gets all wound up which is surprising for a gelding.”

Gemma has just returned from the UK and is straight back into driving.

“It’s good to have her back. I didn’t miss the yelling and screaming I get (laughter).”

Chris shoes a few horses, trains horses and has a sheep and cropping farm.

“I’ve just have to make sure I have the horses done by 10 o’clock so I can either go shoeing or do farm work. I have 60 acres of my own and ten I share farm on.”

Thornley will now take Superfast Gorsey to Blenheim.
“There are a few wineries up there which require my participation. We both like a trip away. We both eat and drink very well (laughter).”
