Southern harness racing trainer Brett Gray will be looking for more luck for his runners today at Winton.
His stable runners he has starting today have not had luck go their way at their last start with either mid-race gallops or blocked runs hampering their chances.Ā Today Jaccka Jake, Hunting Weight, Swedish Starlet, Jasmine Jaccka and Afterburner are starting at Winton with Gray labeling the trotter Afterburner as the best chance from his team.
“He was a certainty beat last start,” Gray told Bruce Stewart from Southern Harness earlier in the week.
“He is actually going really well and he just needs a bit of luck, although he might need a bit of luck from that draw too,” Gray said.
Afterburner has drawn the inside of the second row in the mobile 2400m event and follows out Miss Bamboocha a mare not known for her fast gate speed.
The feature race on the Winton program today is a $15,000 Nevele R/Macca Lodge Heat of the Southern Oaks for 3yo fillies. Several Canterbury fillies have made the trip down for the race with the Regan Todd trained Play Philly coming up the TAB favourite for the 1609m race.
