Horses with contrasting backgrounds won for Tisbury harness racing trainer Kirstin Green at Ascot Park today.
The early double came with Miki Cohen (Always B Miki) in Race One and trotter Spiritinthesky (Father Patrick) in Race Two.
Green bought Miki Cohen for $60,000 at the 2021 Yearling Sales.
“He’s a bit of a disaster really. We really liked him and spent a bit of money on him but he kept going sore on us. It’s been a great reward for the owners today. The last time this horse went sore I put them into Dallas Dale and they had a bit of fun with him. We sold him and got a wee bit back and now this fella’s come out and got a win for them,” Green said.
Miki Cohen qualified at Winton nearly two years ago and debuted in June last year.
In today’s race Green accelerated out of barrier six and sat parked for a short period before getting cover in the one one. At the 500 Green got busy and Miki Cohen started to move round the outside. He was too strong at the finish, winning by two lengths.
MIKI COHEN REPLAY
“He races flat and is a hard case. When Nathan (Williamson) pushed me out on the bend that woke him up, got him going and he did it easy in the end. There was plenty in the tank but he’s such a slack horse to get going.”

Trotting mare Spiritinthesky which part-owner Murray Swain bought from Gavelhouse, got her first win at start number twenty in the Betavet Trot.
She began her career with Kevin Townley, then Swain bought her in June last year. Prior to today’s win she’d recorded four seconds and two thirds for the Green barn.
SPIRITINTHESKY REPLAY
“She can let you down some days, then run a top race in a Gold Chip Final like she did last week. I think there’s another win in her yet and she’s still eligible for those Gold Chip Finals. It great for Murray. He’s a massive help around the stables and helps us out a lot. She was bought off Gavelhouse. He’s had a great run with horses off them.”

Spiritinthesky trailed pacemaker Phishing for most of the race and came up the passing lane to win by a length and three quarters.
