Kirstin Green wasn’t on course today because she was on the road to Christchurch with two of her tighter assessed harness racing pacers, Macandrew Aviator and Tommy Waterhouse, as well as trotter Smokin Bandar.
She had her stable runners primed for good performances at Wyndham today (Sep. 29) though, and Rock Classic (Rock N Roll Heaven) and Bobbies Rock (A Rocknroll Dance) duly rewarded her with an early double.
In Race Two Rock Classic was sent out as hot favourite after he made ground at his last start at Winton, getting the punters through with a hot pace.
Wyndham trainer Craig Ferguson qualified the horse, and Green took over this past month.
“Craig did all the work and qualified her. She didn’t go that well at her last couple of workouts and he thought she was feeling her feet so he suggested (she’d) benefit from working on the beach. We’ve only had her for a couple of weeks and we’ve just galloped her,” Barclay said.
From barrier five Ferguson took the filly straight to the top where she stayed, winning by half a length.
ROCK CLASSIC REPLAY
Two races later Bobbies Rock made the most of a great run in the trail to get up on the inside to beat favourite Xlendi by a nose.
“The wet track conditions really suited him today. He lacks that real quick turn of foot, but he can hold his speed. He’s a nice horse and will probably win another couple.”
The three year old gelding was driven by Rory McIIwrick who’s in a rich vein of form at the moment.
“It was a great drive, and it was good for Rory to get a win for us because he’s helped out when we’ve been stuck.”
BOBBIES ROCK REPLAY
Green has two runners in Friday’s nights Canterbury Classic, and she said both Macandrew Aviator and Tommy Waterhouse have travelled up to Canterbury well.
“They’ve come through their runs in the Hannon really well and had a good training run on the beach on Monday morning. It’s a pretty sharp field but as long as they’re making ground again, I’ll be really pleased.”
After Friday’s race Green said Macandrew Aviator will head to the Methven Cup but she’s unsure of where Tommy Waterhouse will go next.
“Aviator won the Cromwell Cup on the grass, so he deserves a crack there.”
