Very talented harness racing trotter Gus (Majestic Son) looked to have Thursday’s (Apr. 6) Dunstan Horsefeeds Gold Chip Final at Wyndham at his mercy after an impressive win at the Wairio meeting late last month.
However the four year old has been sold to Australia.
The deal was brokered by Southland Bloodstock agent Geoff Gibson-Smith and the horse will be heading to Chantel Turpin’s Brisbane stable.
“He’s got a good turn of foot. It was a pretty impressive win the other day. I know it was only maidens but you’ve got to look a bit further than that. We couldn’t get a line on him at his first start because he missed away but he looked pretty good when he went back to the workouts. He backed that up with a pretty emphatic win the other day,” Gibson-Smith said.
GUS REPLAY
Gus was bred by Williamson and is out of his Monarchy mare Kylie Ree. All of her foals have won races with She’s Allthe Craze (Crazed) and Son Of Patrick (Father Patrick) winning eight each to date.
Gibson-Smith doesn’t buy a lot of trotters but has recently had success with Majestic Simon (Majestic Son) and Sugarinspice (Majestic Son).
Majestic Simon has now won twenty races including two Group features. He’s banked over $200,000 while Sugarinspice after winning three races for Robbie Holmes, has won another nine in Australia.
He’s also had recent success with two horses he bought out of Brett Gray’s stable Swedish Starlet (Mach Three) and The High Commander (Bettor’s Delight).
Swedish Starlet who won twice for Gray has won another six races in Australia while The High Commander which won once from eight start in New Zealand has won a further four races in Australia.
