Harness racing hits Addington again on Tuesday Nov 14 for the biggest meeting of the year. There is over $1.3 million dollars in stakes and the pools for all races will be massive. The TAB is guaranteeing $20,000 first four pools for all races during the day and a $200,000 first four pool in the NZ Trotting Cup
The racing starts at 12:00pm and we highlight the card detailing every horse and its chances on the big day.
Race 1 12:00pm SAUNDERS ROBINSON BROWN HANDICAP TROT $30,000, 3YO & OLDER R51 & FASTER DISCRETIONARY, 3200m
1. It’s So Easy Good beginner but not sure distance will suit. Might struggle here
2. Magic Dash Ok last start and should race handy to the speed. Top three chance in this
3. Vertigo Scratched
4. Masterly Coming into form at the right time and distance will not worry him. Include
5. Light Of Da Moon Tough mare who is a chance if she can dictate in front. Rough chance
6. Prince Teka Likely leader in the race but the distance might find him out. Others preferred
7. Maui Building some form now but needs the right trip. Upset claims at best with luck in running
8. Gift Card Normally close to the placings but this field is stronger than usual. Top four chance his lot
9. Cormoran Strike Good recent trial win but manners will be the key. Winning claims only if he trots
10. Zsa Zoe Doesn’t mind the distance and normally steps ok. One for longer place odds in this
11. Willangus Lad Southern horses do well on Cup Day and winning form. Not the worst
12. Cody Banner Manners aren’t great but he has ability when right. Rough place hope at best
13. Missile Good win last start and might improve further. Trainer will have him ready. Include
14. The Bloss Tough trotting mare who begins well. Will be running on here and has top three claims
15. Muscle Bank Good win two starts ago and Aussie driver jumps on. Place hope at longer odds
16. Missalyssa Extra distance is ideal and can run time. One of the better chances in this field
17. That’s What We Do Has been breaking and will need to bring his manners. Chance if he trots
18. Walkinonsunshine Scratched
Race Notes: Tricky race with many runners having never raced over the extreme distance of 3200m. Missalyssa is one who has good form over the distance but this race a bit of a lottery to sort out.
Race 2 12:26pm HYDROFLOW MOBILE PACE $30,000, 3YO & OLDER R51 TO R55, R56 WITH COND., 1980m
1. Straight Flush Has gate speed but tough field here and pace will be on all the way. Risking
2. Mystar Blue Jean Scratched
3. More Gooda Goes the odd good race but will have to be at her best to place in this. Risking
4. Carrera Rapido Stable will have him ready and top driver booked. One of the better chances
5. Kiwi Hero Will head forward early and ok at recent trials. One for longer odds in this
6. Charlie Brown Getting better with racing and can run time. Has to be respected in this field
7. Casino Action Probably the forgotten horse in this. Has gate speed to burn and could surprise
8. Harrison Has been running on in his races but tricky draw for this. Top four chance at best
9. Sinbad Scratched
10. Jolimont Strikes a tricky draw but has the ability, Will be relying on luck in the running
11. Fernetti Good form and should get a run through from the draw. Top three chance with luck
12. Luvstruck Stable respect but might have traffic issues early. Outside chance with a cart up
13. Pandaia Has run some cracking races and latest trial was good. Bad draw the only concern
14. Major Torque Terrible draw and looks held from there.Risking in this field
Race Notes: Plenty of front row speed in this race. Gate speed from Kiwi Hero, Casino Action and Harrison, but another hard race to sort out. Many chances and a lot will depend on the speed in front and luck in running. Back runners can lift late if the pace is a good one.
Race 3 12:58pm MITRE 10 HANDICAP TROT $30,000, 3YO & OLDER R58 & FASTER DISCRETIONARY, 2600m
1. Vertigo Better suited in this field but will might still struggle. Others are better.
2. Outamyway Top driver back on for this and unlucky last start. Could lead for a long way
3. Gift Card Scratched
4. Royal Del Out of form but at his best could threaten a place in this field. Risking today
5. Confessional Run down in a weaker field last start. Would need to be on his best behavior
6. Our Pinocchio Risky at the start and this field looks too strong for him. Prepared to leave out
7. Almighty Fear Ok last start and normally a quick beginner. Upset place chance if he races handy
8. Domination’s Call Likes it here but drawn the pegs. Will need all favours to win this. Place only
9. Delson Scratched
10. Galway Girl Good second to a champ at recent trials. Can run top three with the right trip
11. Unico Vacanza Never far away and will be at peak fitness for this. Can go close to top three
12. Nazareth Capable of running a really strong 2600m if the pace is on. Has to be included
13. Andy Hall Running thereabouts and winning claims if he gets a good run in transit,
Race Notes: The last four in the book 10,11,12 and 13 look the stronger chances on paper. Confessional off the front a big hope if he can get to the front cheaply
Race 4 1:26pm GARRARD’S PACE $30,000, 3YO & OLDER UP TO & INCLUDING R50, 2600m
1. Fernleigh Blackbird Change of trainer and good at recent trials. Stand start the main concern
2. Rocknroll Diva Good last start and consistent form. Place chance with her best effort
3. Tempo Warrior Conditions suit and he is another who steps well. Top three chance
4. Shepherds Delight Fast beginner who went well last start. On pace runners go well on Cup day
5. Kingsdown Atom Can go a good one if fit enough and his latest trial was ok. One for longer odds
6. He’s Tough Would need to step and run to the front to be any chance. Rough chance of doing that
7. Ideal Chevron Stand start might trip him up here. If he gets it right early he could run top four
8. Rapid Response Fast beginner but others here are better. Can run in the top six if he trails here
9. Szybka Lane Track stats not great and better suited from a mobile start. Risking in this
10. Topaz Scratched
11. Rise Up N Dance Southern runners do well on Cup day. Good form and has to be respected
12. Arnold Layne Racing ok against weaker opposition. This is harder and prepared to leave out
13. Borrisokane No form to speak of but has a big motor. No surprise to see him in the top three
14. Amaretto Franco Big late finish last start and will be improved. Probably over the odds here
15. Bettor Be Sharp Disappointing fresh but give another chance. One for longer odds in this
16. Mandalay Bay Best horse in the field and latest trial good. Now on the beach and top selection
17. Obsession Out of form but will appreciate the race conditions here. Stable looking formidable
18. The Real McCoy Scratched
Race Notes: Good stand start beginners are Shepherds Delight and Rapid Response
Back runners Mandalay Bay, Ameretto Franco, Borrisokane and Rise Up And Dance are expected to race well in this. Should be plenty of moves in the race.
Race 5 1:56pm TAB JUNIOR FREE-FOR-ALL (MOBILE PACE) (Gr3) $40,000, 3YO & OLDER FFA, 2600m
1. Cya Art Now in the Jason Grimson barn. Good beginner who is an outside place hope
2. Jimmy James Maguire Has stepped up to this class in style. Will be there abouts at the finish
3. Celtic Spirit Quick beginner who won on Cup Day last year. Can run time from the front
4. Bach Good finish last start and has the speed to race handy. Not the worst in this
5. Got You Covered Has been racing better fields and drop back here. Could surprise at longer odds
6. Franco Sinatra Only battled last start but better than that. Chance to go forward and dominate
7. Mighty Looee Running on last start in a good field. Has speed but wide draw a concern
8. Merlin Hardly ever out of the placings but gets a wide draw to contend with. Will be running on
9. Don’t Stop Dreaming Top three year old with a bad draw. Chance if he goes forward early
10. Donmaro Ran some good sectionals here last start but tricky draw. Risking today
11. Homebush Lad This field looks too strong for him and prepared to leave out today
Race Notes: Favoured runners Merlin and Don’t Stop Dreaming have drawn wide in this which makes it interesting. This race is normally run at a quick pace and if they get back early they might struggle to pick up the leaders. Celtic Spirit likely to lead early.
Race 6 2:30pm K B ELECTRICS MOBILE PACE $30,000, 3YO & OLDER R62 TO R70, 1980m
1. He’s A Meister Getting better with racing but some here look faster. Outside place chance
2. Ohoka Le Bron Quick beginner who might be the early leader. Place chance from a trail
3. Triple G In good form and should race handy to the speed. Will be running on at the finish
4. Helium Could try for the lead early but might struggle if he goes back at the start.
5. Here’s Herbie Not going well enough at the moment. Would need to find a few lengths here
6. Miki Knows Up from the South and in good form. Big motor and has place claims in this
7. Wag Star Gate speed to burn and his best chance is to head forward early. Can go close
8. Who’s Delight Another who likes to race from the front. Could be fireworks early here
9. The Falcon Scratched
10. Franco Indie Good horse but cops a bad draw. Will need an electric pace to show his best
11. Coney Island Lou Draw suits and he will be finishing quickly. Could surprise with luck
12. Sooner The Bettor Racing in great form but tricky draw. Looking for luck in the running
13. Life Of Art Nice form but this looks too hard from the draw. Prepared to leave out
14. Dashing Major Freshened but will need a minor miracle to win this. Risking
Race Notes: A very quick front line here with noted front runners Ohoka Le Bron, Helium, Wag Star and Who’s Delight possibly all wanting the front early.
Triple G, Miki Knows all good chances along with second row runners Franco Indie, Coney Island Lou and Sooner The Better.
Race 7 3:02pm NEVELE R ’50 YEARS OF SUCCESS’ FINAL (MOBILE PACE) (Gr1) $140,000, 3YO FILLIES, 1980m
1. Luvstruck Scratched
2. Aardiebytheseaside Good draw and looks the early leader. Hard to run down in this
3. Sweet Diamond Nice at recent trials on the track. Good chance at longer odds from the draw
4. Sweet Coco Quick beginner and her only chance is to cross to the front. Outside chance only
5. Penny Black Maiden who looks outclassed in this. Tricky draw and not liked here
6. Cyren Shard Scratched
7. Treacherous Gall Wide draw but has a big motor. One for longer odds in this
8. What A Minx Not going well enough to trouble these. Not liked from the wide draw
9. Amore Infida Draw hurts and will need to find several lengths to trouble this field. Risking
10. Kahlua Flybye Could be following the leader and latest trial was ok. Good top four chance
11. Tokyo Rose Races best when rolling in front but unlikely to get that here. Risking
12. Wicked Wanda Two good wins last couple and will be running on late. Could sneak a top four
13. Mantra Blue Has looked very good winning her four races but a big test here. Can place
14. Advance Party Bad draw but has finishing speed. Might struggle to get into the race
15. Millwood Nike Unbeaten filly who looks a champion in the making. She might just be too good
Race Notes: Draws have added a lot of interest here. Millwood Nike unbeaten and a very classy filly has drawn terribly at barrier 15 and will have to work hard to get into the race. The Telfer stable will look to dominate from the front with high speed filly Aardiebytheseaside who will be hard to run down. Sweet Coco, Sweet Diamond, Treacherous Gall, Kahlua Flybye and Mantra Blue capable of upsetting.
Race 8 3:37pm HORNBY LIQUOR CENTRE WORTHY QUEEN (HANDICAP TROT) (Gr3) $40,000, SPECIAL, 2000m
1. Aardiebythehill Good beginner suited to the conditions here. Top selection
2. Mystic Max Beat a similar field last start and drawn ideally. One of the better chances
3. Time Up The Hill Distance should suit and has place claims in what is an even field
4. Love N The Port Usually begins ok and another who could run top three with the right trip
5. Midnight Dash Out of form but if he brings his A-game then he could surprise. One for odds
6. Resolve Has run some cheeky races in this grade. Will have to get the start right to figure
7. I Dream Of Jeannie Likes the track and comes right at this time of the year.Top four chance
8. Majestic Man Running good races and the sprint trip ideal. Winning claims again here
Race Notes: An even field here with the three trotting stars Muscle Mountain, Oscar Bonavena and Bolt For Brilliance electing to bypass this race. Aardiebythehill normally a good beginner will be hard to catch over the 2000m but all runners get their chance.
Race 9 4:12pm WOODLANDS STUD SIRES STAKES FINAL (MOBILE PACE) (Gr1) $160,000, 2YO COLTS & GELDINGS, 1980m
1. Quinn Scratched
2. We Walk By Faith Getting better with racing and drawn to be a threat. Good top four chance at nice odds
3. Major Hot Stablemates have been better in recent runs and might struggle. Looking to others in this lineup
4. Spirit Of Anarchy Scratched
5. Hadron Collider Good last start and big stable wraps. Top four chance at best in this if he can find the front
6. Le Major Disappointing last start but trainer happy with him. Can leave the gate quickly
7. Vessem Top driver booked and good at Cup trials. Stable respected and has to be included.
8. Renegade Wide draw but does have finishing speed. Will need all favours to figure here
9. Commander Joe Tricky draw and he could get pushed back on the fence. Risking here
10. Light Me Up Has the ability but yet to show it in three runs. Big odds available here
11. Always B Elite Ok last start but will have to work mid race. Others here are better
12. Cold Chisel Good win in a similar field last start. Will need luck but has winning claims
13. Shards Matrix Badly drawn and hard to see him getting into the race. Risking here
14. Miki’s Courage Another dealt a bad hand with the draws. Prepared to leave out
15. Chase A Dream Tricky draw and will have to loop the field at some stage. Can still win
Race Notes: Gate speed from runners 2,6 and 7 and note the driver change for this with Mark Purdon choosing to drive We Walk By Faith which is a good push from that stable. Cold Chisel beat a similar field last start but harder here from his draw.
Race 10 4:47pm AVON CITY FORD TROT $30,000, 3YO & OLDER UP TO & INCLUDING R50, 2600m
1. Madeleine Stowe Has run some good races on the track but out of form. Chance at her best
Spells Of Love Good draw and puts in the odds tidy effort. One for longer odds in this
3. Hanover Da Moon Has the draw and can run a quick half when right. Outside chance
4. Sunny Louis Getting back to top form and good enough to be a threat in this. Needed
5. Sally Lindenny Nice southern form but this is harder. Outside chance here at best
6. Sinner Cool Will head forward early but might struggle against some of these. Top four at best
7. Elizabeth Hill Lightly raced but has a motor. Stable starting to build and has winning claims
8. Mixed Faith Manners can be iffy on occasions but would have a place chance here at her best
9. What The Bell Getting better with racing and could run into the money with a good run in transit
10. True Confessions Freshened and tough race to come back in. Stablemate might be better.
11. Monarch Prince Sometimes gets the start wrong but speedy and not the worst if he gets it right
12. Clyde Scratched
13. Kawhi Much better last start but up in grade. Could surprise if she puts in an improved effort
14. Create Time Did it well on debut and should handle the rise in grade. Good chance with manners
15. Holly Highlander Ok last start but this field looks much better. Prepared to risk today
16. A Hill Two Menny Scratched
17. KD Hawk Goes the odd good race but outside top three chance at best in this.
18. Fiery Bandito Looked ok at Cup trials but will need luck from the draw. Upset claims
Race Notes: An even bunch here and a hard race to narrow down to a just a few runners. Almost the whole field capable of filling a placing and apart from the favourite Elizabeth Hill at $4.20 all other horses at backable quotes of $7.00 and above
Race 11 Race 5:20pm IRT NEW ZEALAND TROTTING CUP (STAND PACE) (Gr1) $750,000, FFA, 3200m
1. Pembrook Playboy Good beginner but hasn’t had much recent racing. Prepared to risk in this
2. Got You Covered Scratched
3. Republican Party Drawn to be a major player in the race. Will not be far away at the finish
4. Krug Good draw and an honest chance if can find the front early. One for longer odds
5. Beach Ball All depends on the start but no doubting the toughness. Will relish the extra distance
6. Kango Drawn well and has been near enough recently. Tough type who will stay the distance
7. Mossdale Ben Latest runs ok. Will need to get handy and have one run at them to be any chance
8. One Change Out of form but has a decent finish when saved for one run. Chance at bolters odds
9. Old Town Road Hasn’t really had the rub of the green in big races. Has the ability to go close
10. Macandrew Aviator Punching above his weight last couple but this is tougher. Risking
11. Smiffy’s Terror Can get the start wrong sometimes and others look better here. Risking
12. B D Joe Another who hasn’t had the rub of the green in big races. Speedy and could surprise
13. Swayzee Aussie visitor who has a big motor. Looks very hard to beat if he can get to the front
14. American Me Badly drawn and other here look better. Prepared to risk in this field
15. Akuta Draw hurts but good enough to make his own luck. One of the better chances in this
16. Heza Sport Well down on form and would need all favours to get into the race from the draw
17. Bach Scratched
Race Notes: One of the more even Cup fields with favourites Swayzee and Akuta drawn the second row in a big field. In form runners Republican Party and Old Town Road much better drawn off the front. Swayzee has a big reputation and Aussie runners always hard to beat. If he can get to the front would be hard to run down but lots of possibilities and chances the way the draws have worked out.
Race 12 5:53pm GOLD BAND TAXIS MOBILE PACE $30,000, 3YO & OLDER R56 TO R61, 1980m
1. Double Time Draw suits and should get a good run handy on the pegs. Places hope with luck
2. Jack Tar Can work in his races and stick on. Will need a good run but chance at longer odds
3. Mon Lancome Top driver booked but up in grade for this. Stable respect but others preferred
4. McCrikey Quick beginner who should lead early. Could stick on for a place from the trail
5. Stephs Boy Normally a good beginner but lots of early speed here. Outside place chance
6. Dalton Shard Big win last start and a similar effort might see him in the money again here
7. Jimmyray Running on last start but wide draw makes it tough. Prepared to back against
8. Smoke On The Water Good form and can do some work in his races. Not the worst in this
9. Watermelon Sugar Wide draw and would have to go forward early to have the best chance
10. Dancing Desire Will get a soft run on the pegs. Big odds available but will need a lot of luck
11. Wattlebank Arnie Racing well and southern horses have a good record on Cup day. Include
12. Winnyzback Has the motor but drawn out the back. Outside chance with a cart into it
13. The Coalman Has a quick finish but will be relying on luck from the draw. Place chance
14. Evangalist Badly drawn and hard to see her getting into the race from there. Prepared to risk
Race Notes: McCrikey a noted gate flyer looks the early leader here. Favourites have drawn wider and are likely to get handy early. Could be a fast pace in the race.
