Harness Analyst – Omakau 2nd January

Harness racing hits Omakau again today with 11 races on the card . The racing starts at 12:26pm and we highlight some specials and value runners we think can give you a run for your money on a good day of racing.

Best Bet:  R2   The Merc

Best Value:  R11   Tempo Warrior

Race 1

Foveaux Gambler (6) Out of form but has raced better fields in the past. Could surprise in this
Auntie Deb (8) Small field will help and good win last start. Will need the right trip but has claims
Santanna Mach (9) Getting better with racing and always a chance in these amateur drivers races.

Race 2

The Merc (2) Easier here and has taken on good age group fields. Should go close to winning this
Bluey (4) Fitter and manners early the only issue. Canterbury visitors do well here so needed here
Madison’s Moon (10) Has been getting it wrong early but does have speed once underway. Place hope

Race 3

Jayar Mac (5) Stable respect and driver change for this. Better run expected from the good draw
Major Burns (4) Ok last start and a threat to these with a good run in transit. Likely to head forward
Loveyourmother (2) Mobile will help and expect an improved showing here. Can sneak into the top three 

Race 4

Monkee Major (4) Has been disappointing but track should suit Winning chance from the draw. Include
Janaka’s Delight (6) Running on late last start. Needs to get handy but not the worst at longer odds
Northview Sweet (10) Out of form but improver with a trainer change. Should get a good run through early

Race 5

Haley Robyn (6) Fought on last start in a similar field. Will go forward and top selection in this line up
Timbimboo (3) Well placed here but hard to catch. Good each way chance with a soft run in  transit
Better Be Watching (4) Will be fitter after last start. Driver in good form and top three chance. Include

Race 6

Ebury Street (6) Going for three in a row and raced well on the Otago circuit last year. Hard to beat
Raknruin (4) Should get a soft run handy. Winning claims at longer odds from the draw. Include
Outback Man (7) Back in form but wide draw here. Will need luck but will be in the mix with luck

Race 7

Missile (9) Draw hurts but good run in a better field last start. Chance if he can get handy quickly
Abadabado (3) Should get a run close to the front early. Last run was ok in a strong field. Include
Practical Magic (1) Best draw and has been racing well. Good winning chance here with manners

Race 8

Buffy Northstains (7) Going for three in a row and is race fit. One of the hardest to beat here
Miss Gracie (2) Will need to bring her manners but top driver booked and should go close to placing
Jordan Anne (10) In good form and good beginner. Top three chance if she can get handy at some stage

Race 9

One Change (4) Has gate speed and second here last year. Small field helps and one for odds
Mo’unga (5) Decent motor and likely to go forward early here. One of the better chances in this
Da Vinci (3) Has been disappointing. Will continue to improve and place hope here. Include

Race 10

One Over All (8) Has raced better fields. Drawn wide but looks a good bet. Top three chance
Jimmy Carter (4) Has been breaking but mobile will help. Has to be respected in this at long odds
Mystic Max (9) Good finish last start and can do some work mid race. Well placed in this field

Race 11

Tempo Warrior (6) Goes best when leading and will head forward. Can go close here if he leads
Munroe’s Mate (10) Drawn for a good run through early. Has ability and can run top three with luck
Wavewatcher (2) Likely to race close to the speed here. Leading and then trailing is his ideal spot
