Harrison wins Darren De Filippi Memorial

While many harness racing juniors would love to win a Dominion Handicap or a Rowe Cup, it’s the Darren De Filippi Memorial that twenty three year old Riley Harrison has previously labelled she’d love to win.

That ambition came to fruition when Luvavici (Orlando Vici) cleared out to win the feature race by five lengths tonight at Addington.

“He was just cruising. I pulled him out and he wasn’t storming home but I looked behind me and no one was coming. He really jogged it I thought,” Harrison said.

LUVAVICI REPLAY

Recovering from an infected hand caused by a wood slinter, trainer Paul Nairn wasn’t at the track tonight. He also provided Riley with her first winner Outamyway, at Addington in August of last year.

“I just watched replays and talked to Stacey (Whatuira) who normally drives him and thought the horse was better with a sit. So I thought I’d do that for as long as I could.”

The win was the eleventh for the young driver who works for Woodend Beach trainers Robert and Jenna Dunn.

“I’ve been there four and a half years. I love it. I hope to get on some of the Dunn horses but there’s a queue behind John (Dunn), Tim Williams and Blair Orange.
